Two more witnesses came forth making a total of four witnesses to come forth on Jerrico lindsey’s behalf. These four witnesses states their proof that Jerrico Lindsey did not committ this crime. Judge Steven Alm denied his motion for a new trial.
This is the first statement of William Freeman with Honolulu Detectives. This statement will show who committed the crimes.
Detective began the interrogation by asking William Freeman what he does for a living. He says:
Freeman: “I am a collector”, meaning he collects money for other drug dealers.
Detective Sherrel Sunia: “What kind of items do you collect”?
Freeman: “Well, merchandise.” Meaning he takes whatever the person has if they don’t have the money he supposed to collect. Freeman testified on the witness stand that he and Pettway flew over to Honolulu to rob drug dealers, pimps, and people with money. Freeman and Pettway received a job from one of Pettway’s people to come to Hawaii and rob somebody in Honolulu that owed Pettway’s people some money. They came to Honolulu from Alabama to collect it. That was their original plan for coming to Hawaii.
Detective Sherrel Sunia: “O.K. when you came to Oahu, did you stay at a hotel, or did you stay with friends”?
Freeman: “I stayed at a hotel.”
Detective Sherrel Sunia: “O.K. What hotel is that’?
Freeman: “The Ohana”.
Detective Sherrel Sunia: “Where is it located”? Close to the beach? Far from the beach”?
Freeman: “The Ala Wai.” “Right by TGI Fridays.”
Freeman went on lying to the Detectives, Sherrel Sunia and Kenneth Higa for about 2 hours about how he was robbed and duct taped and put inside of the trunk of his car with Grajeda by masked men with guns, and said that the mask men made him drive his car and that’s when he popped the trunk and let Grajeda go. The detectives knew that was a lie.
Freeman started over with another story until he felt like they would believe the next story after the next. There were key things that Freeman said that lets you know Lindsey did not murder, kidnap, nor rob anyone, nor did Lindsey burglarize anything.
Grajeda shot at Freeman and Pettway a few nights before Grajeda was killed, but the prosecutor lied to the jury and made them believe that the first shooting incident had nothing to do with Grajeda getting killed. Prosecutor Darrell Wong told the jury that Lindsey did it because he was seeing this girl, Melissa Ordonez which is a lie.
During the interview with detectives, Freeman said: “Well, God dam, he shot at us; he shot about 5 or 6 rounds. 2 of the rounds hit that – hit that hummer, right there at the bottom of the bumper is a hole.
I said it’s just good that nobody get shot behind this.”
Freeman then began to tell detectives Sunia and Higa how the deal came up.
Freeman: “He (Grajeda) actually called back and he was trying to hold this, this girl for ransom and asked us for some ransom money for the girl. So in return I said well, we ought to file charges on you all for that – for you shooting at us and, you know and that’s how the money thing came up.” Actually, what happened was the deal was supposed to be – he was supposed to be given the money so we wouldn’t make no charges against him.” He was suppose to give like ten thousand dollars, so we went five – because we had – we had em he had the holes in the truck.”
So that was the real reason for all of this as you can see. This was Freeman’s and Pettway’s idea for doing this and getting this guy back for shooting at them. This was not over Melissa Ordonez.
Detectives interrogates Freeman:
Detective Sherrel Sunia: “O.K., so was the original plan to go to Fernando’s house to rip him”? (Fernando is one of Grajeda’s aliases)
Freeman: “No, the original plan was to go there because she had been calling him. If you could check the phone records, she had been calling Rick that whole day trying to get him to come by and meet her. Really, to be honest with you, you know, it was just suppose to be that the girl was there, that she was trying to – she was going to that she was leaving him to go back with Rico, that whole situation. This was the real reason Lindsey went to that house. Because the girl Melissa told us where – she actually called us when she – when she was in the house and told us – and invited Rico in. Yeah, she let Rico in. We were still sitting in the car.” She wanted to talk to him about being – everything being okay, everything being cool and then, so by this time, you know, she called to say that he went to the store for something because they had just gotten back, so Rico went up to get’er and he went to – I guess they went to talk.”
Freeman did not like the idea of Lindsey taking Melissa back. He tells detective:
Freeman: ” Me personally I don’t – I don’t really care for her. She knew that, she knew that. Because after everything had been happening, I mean it was just straight chaos anyway.”
So after Lindsey went inside the house, Freeman and Pettway had their own plan. Freeman tells detectives that he and Pettway:
Freeman: “We were just there – when we got there, we got there about the money.” The guns were just in case he tried to double cross us.”
Freeman and Pettway went into the house after Lindsey was invited in and demanded money from Melissa. Melissa had already told them that nothing was there, but they didn’t believe her. Freeman and Pettway searched the house but didn’t find anything. Freeman became angry with Melissa and pulled his gun out. He demanded that Melissa help them.
Grajeda returned while we were all there. Freeman and Pettway hid in the bathroom. Lindsey stayed in the front because he was not trying to hide from anyone. As Lindsey was about to leave a fight broke out between him and Grajeda. Freeman and Pettway came out of the bathroom and started pistol whipping Grajeda until he was unconscious. That is when Lindsey ran out of the house in an attempt to leave, but Freeman and Pettway wanted their money that Grajeda agreed to give them, so they duct taped Grajeda up and woke him up. Grajeda then told them that the money was at another location. Grajeda offered Freeman and Pettway fifty thousand dollars to let him live. That is when Freeman and Pettway put Grajeda in the trunk. Freeman and Pettway both testified to that statement on the witness stand during the trial.
Freeman said to the detectives that Grajeda was acting up.
Detective Kenneth Higa: “So that’s why he had to go in the trunk.”
Freeman: “Yeah, the money is supposed to be at this dude named Cruz house, but then they reported the money in an Infiniti was parked at this apartment building where this guy with the white van with the rims, his he got a feeling he stays over there. And that’s where we was headed to go get it. It was a deal, that’s were we were supposed to be going.”
How can Freeman tell this story , but comes back and lie and say that he let the guy out of the trunk cause he felt sorry for the guy. Te same guy he claims owe him money and shot at him.
On their way to go and get the money, with Grajeda in the trunk of Freeman’s car, Grajeda takes off the duct tape, pulls the trunk release cord from the inside of the trunk and hops out of the trunk. Freeman and Pettway became angry at Grajeda for trying to escape without paying them their money.
Freeman tells detectives:
Freeman: “When I stopped to pull over to the side and jumped out, he ran, and then I shot and I shot him. I shot him.” In any other place in the world this would be a confession, except in Hawaii in this case.
After Freeman shot Grajeda 3 times, he handed Pettway the M-10 Uzi, and tried to put Grajeda back in the trunk, ( That is how Pettway’s clothing got soiled with Grajeda’s blood) but Grajeda managed to get away from him again and run in the other direction. Pettway was able to catch Grajeda and finished shooting him.
Freeman told detectives:
Freeman: ” Pettway was still in the front. He had a gun.”
Detectives ask where Lindsey was seated. Freeman said ” behind the passenger side.”
Witnesses say the shooter came from the passenger seat, and got in the back driver seat as they were leaving the scene. That was Pettway.
On the way to 7-11, Pettway climbed over the seat to get back in the passenger seat. Freeman is seen on the 7-11 video exiting the front passenger side entering the store and paying for water and gas after the murder. Freeman is seen on the video tape pumping the gas and dropping 3 dollar bills with Grajeda’s blood on it.
Freeman told detectives that Pettway put the gun inside the bag after the murder.
Detective Sherrel Sunia: “O.K., so you guys get stopped at the park or whatever. Everybody digs. Who’s carrying the guns”?
Freeman: “Oh, no, the guns should have still been in the car because I got out – when I got out and I said God dam, what the hell I’m waiting for and I just stopped and I laid it down and the gun should be in the car.”
The guns were found a few feet away from the car by witnesses. Freeman also told detectives that his prints might be on the guns because he did touch them. Lindsey’s fingerprints were not on the gun.
Freeman picked another innocent man in the photo like-up and said he was the third man, Freeman said this innocent man was to be Pettway. This innocent man is a friend of Lindsey’s that was not on Oahu at the time of the murder, but was arrested anyway because of Freeman’s lies. He was able to prove he was working in Lahaina that day and was released. Freeman lied on Lindsey just like he lied on his friend from Maui.
