The Arkansas Arts Center announces the award winners and accepted artists for the 52nd Annual Delta Exhibition, on view January 29 – March 14, 2010. Juror Martha Tedeschi, curator in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago, chose 51 works for the exhibition and selected the Grand Award, Delta Awards and Honorable Mentions.
The Delta Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture was founded in 1956 to feature contemporary work by artists from Arkansas and bordering states. Today, the annual Delta Exhibition has grown to encompass works in all media and is a showcase for the dynamic vision of artists of the Mississippi Delta region. The diversity of art reflects the region’s strong traditions of craftsmanship and observation, combined with innovative use of materials and an experimental approach to subject matter.
The Grand Award was awarded to Kyle Chaput of Corpus Christi, Texas, for his lithograph titled Oso Bay Site 47. Kathy Bay of Sherwood received a Delta Award for her work Txtrd Msg, acrylic and collage on paper. Kat Wilson of Ft. Smith also received a Delta Award for Artist: Rudy, Arkansas, a digital print.
Honorable Mentions were awarded to: Sheila Cantrell of Batesville for Pitchers and Pears, colored pencil; S.L. Dickey of Columbus, Miss., for The Unwritten Chance, dimensional screen print triptych; Greer Farris of Fort Smith for Epines Si Vous Plait, pine, rose and bois d’arc; Whitney Leland of Knoxville, Tenn., for 2008 VIII, watercolor on paper; Dennis McCann of Maumelle for North Little Rock Neighborhood, pastel; and Kate Rivers of Ada, Okla., for Traveler, license plate, keys and found objects.
