Restore Equality 2010 (RE 2010), the campaign working on repealing Prop 8, is calling for everyone who believes in equality to come together on Saturday, February 6th in their Statewide Day of Action. Thousands of people across California will meet in various locations across the state to collect over 100,000 signatures in a single day.
“It’s a big challenge,” said Sean Bohac, the chair of the Statewide Advisory Panel for Restore Equality 2010, “but it’s one that we are ready to take on. We are planning for 1,000 volunteers and for each to collect 100 signatures, that’s our goal. This is a great opportunity for California residents to really show they’re serious about equality. Every day that goes by is another day that we let discrimination stay in the constitution. It doesn’t matter if you are gay or straight, or what your party affiliation is. Race doesn’t matter, and neither does gender or religion. This is a human rights issue. It’s an equality issue, and equality knows no bounds.”
The purpose of this event is to challenge the community to stand up for what’s right, and to show everyone that the power of the grassroots is very strong. The campaign has reached the half way point of the signature gathering effort, and RE 2010 says that if people want marriage equality restored in California this year, those people will need to come out to this event.
“This is one day; just a few hours,” Bohac explained. “We’re asking all people who truly believe in equality to join us on February 6th to show that California is serious about equality. This event won’t take up much of your time, but it will make a big impact in the fight for marriage equality. On Saturday, February 6th bring all of your friends, family members, coworkers, and anyone else you can think of, because this whole thing is about working TOGETHER for a greater cause. We are stronger when we work together.”
The events will be held in major cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego and they will also be in smaller more rural areas such as Chico, Bakersfield, and Fresno. Contact Restore Equality 2010 for more information on the location times and addresses.
