Intuition isn’t one of those magical things. It’s true, we don’t know how it works exactly, but everybody has those hunches, those thoughts that give us insight based on seemingly inadequate information.
Somehow we have the capacity to tap into that information grid; that intelligent life force that exists within and around everything, which allows us to dial into the information that we need.
Intuition is actually as natural as all your other senses. It’s just that usually it doesn’t get as much air time. You know the saying, “use it or lose it?” …well that’s true of intuition.
Intuition is one of those soulful skills. It requires listening within. And the more you pay attention, the more it has to say.
Our intuition speaks to us in many languages. It can be a gut feeling or a distinct thought; at other times our intuitive sense works through our dreams. Or, we may just all of a sudden hear something amongst the conversations around us that truly speak to us and we just know that there is a deeper message for us.
The tricky thing with intuition is that sometimes it comes in bits and pieces and has to be followed step by step in order to get the whole enchilada. Yet again, sometimes it’s like a bolt of lightning…so look out!
How do you build that “intuition” muscle?
Begin by saying “Yes” to your intuition
This may sound a bit corny, but by simply inviting in more intuitive experiences, your unconscious mind gets on-board.
Play with your intuition
It can actually be a lot of fun building your intuitive muscle. Try making those guesses as to who’s on the phone when it rings. And when you have that strong feeling to do something…do it!
Remember to keep your eyes open for the opportunities that present themselves to you when you do follow where your intuiton leads you. There’s usually some reason for your change in course, although it may not be right before your eyes.
Become aware of your thoughts and feelings.
Many of us go through the day not really paying attention. And when those intuitive “hits” come along we just plow right over them. So start to notice when you have that gut feel, or quirky thought about this or that. Most likely it is telling you something. Your job is to listen and take the action that feels like your Truth. (You know that feeling…it just feels right!)
At times these intuitive thoughts or images can be confusing because they are out of the range of our expectations. When your intuition speaks to you in Greek, take a quick assessment of the situation. Do a double check. Intuition followed blindly isn’t always a good thing…especially when you are just learning to use this muscle. Sometimes it can take you in circles until you learn the language.
My best advice when your intuition just plain old confuses you? Stop and check in to get a deeper understanding, if possible, on what your intuition is saying. Ask for directions if you need to! Just ask a question about what you are experiencing and stay open to the answer. You may get another hunch, or the answer will present itself when you stay aware. But stay with it. Sometimes we need to do a little inner-work to get out of our own way. When we do, the message will be clear.
When you do feel clear on the direction, try taking a little step on the path of your inner guidance and see what comes out of that. The more you do this, the easier it will be to discern those intuitive moments, and know just what action to take.
The key to all this is to relax and let your mind go a little bit. Intuition works best when we are relaxed and at peace. It’s then when we can hear the often subtle messages that can gently guide us where we need to go.
