With the possibility of 60 degree weather in the forecast for the weekend, Kentuckiana is sure to begin sweating with spring fever. The perfect place to start planning outdoor activities is at the Louisville Boat, RV and Sport Show in the North Wing, East Hall and South Wing at the Kentucky Exposition Center this weekend.
During this annual event in its 53rd year, attendees can enjoy seminars, workshops and displays to stay current on the latest trends and technology in boating, RVing, hunting, fishing and other outdoor sports. At the Affordability Pavilion, those looking to purchase their first boat or RV, or simply upgrade to a newer model can compare and save with a little time and research.
Steve Williams and Thorn Shepherd, writers of the hit song, “Redneck Yacht Club,” will grace the stage, singing songs from their hit album, Songs from the Redneck Yacht Club Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The DockDogs will be featured multiple times daily in the East Hall as professional and amateur canines compete in the Big Air (long jump), Extreme Vertical (high jump) and Speed Retrieve (fastest dog to the end of the pool) in this ZONE qualifier for the 2010 DockDogs World Championships.
The Miss GEICO offshore racing boat will be a sight for anyone with a need for speed. This boat, complete with the same turbine engines that flew missions in the Gulf War, can reach speeds of more than 185 mph and requires a six man crew.
Families can take advantage of various children’s activities including the Trout Pond, Adventure Trail and the Take Me Fishing Center. Also, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants will be making a special appearance on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Anyone looking to end-up with something for nothing can check out the variety of giveaways and contests including a chance to win a Walt Disney World Vacation & Fishing Excursion, a getaway at Bear Lake Wilderness Camp in Espanola, Ont., whitewater rafting and wakeboarding packages and more.
