We didn’t get the vaporous empty shirt Scott Brown because Democrats were too Liberal. We got this result simply because Obama failed to challenge corporate control of anything. We have lost Democracy in the workplace. Corporate interests controlled decisions in health care, banking, workplace safety and Global Climate Change. The Democrats sold out the Middle Class. The Republicans for their part, have always been trying to return us to serfdom.
The truth of the matter is that there will be no Progressive agenda until we honesty raise the issue of Class as we have Race, Gender,Ethnicity. Religion or anything else. This nation is not nor has it ever been, a classless society. The idea that everyone with hard work and effort can be rich or that the wealthy if lazy and feckless, can sink to homelessness, is just a fiction.
The most obvious orator on the issue of Class was Karl Marx. The Right Wing howling Socialist comes to mind with timid Democrats running to prove they are Right Center politically today everytime his name comes up. While aspects of Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto obviously failed miserably, the most incendiary part of Marx and certainly very accurate, was his analysis of different interests between the Rich and Poor and how they impact political outcomes.
Because the Rich control the media, and it is often more about propaganda than the truth, we have all been fed the idea that we all share common interests. We have been told that anyone can become Rich and that all it takes is ingenuity, drive and hard work to succeed, . Much of the reason for this myth is that it justifies income inequality and thus prevents Revolution when the Rich attempt to loot America and the Middle Class like the 1920’s or now.
When this fiction is reviewed objectively it is proven over and over again to be a lie. Obama bailed out Wall Street while Main Street got pocket change. There is no class mobility and like the childhood joke about All men being created equal, in reality in this nation some are born considerably more equal than others. While no one accepts excluding someone because of Race, there are many places in Moneyland where no matter what color you are not welcome if you lack the color green as in cash.
Talking about Class honestly, will finally get us away from Right/Left and Republican/Democrat. Corporate America owns both parties. Their cash perverts not only Free speech but subverts Democracy far more effectively than any of our international enemies.
It doesn’t matter what Fox News, The Republican Party or even Democrats and Obama think about any issue. When you focus attention on the issue of Class as the next real Civil Rights movement, you are mobilizing the people around a common interest instead of political party interest.
In our history, real change, such as wage, work place safety, minimum wage laws, and other Progressive issues such as the right to join unions came with Social unrest. It will clearly take that now to provoke enough fear of where this might go to offset all the Corporate ownership of our government.
There are only two classes of people in this world. Those who work and those who Don’t. Most of us work and most of those in both political parties don’t. Thus the Corporate kleptocray where a Democratic Republic once stood.
The system will never be fixed by politicians. Our nation is much too dysfunctional and broken now. Real change will be the result of activities outside of Washington. We will not get change we can believe in or need until they fear we Barabrians are at the gate with pitchforks in hand.
