Friday – April 2 Under The Sea
Living underwater can be difficult even for those animals who have done so all their lives. The children will learn in this class how sea otters, sea lions and several different species of fish actually survive under the water to live happy and long lives. Children will learn how fish breath, sleep and eat while playing in their beautiful underwater garden.
Friday – April 16 Samudra the Elephant
The Oregon Zoo has the worlds best breeding program for elephants and the most recent addition Samudra has grown fast. The children will learn how this newest addition to The Oregon Zoo’s herd is getting along, how he was born and when, and they will be given the supplies for a great elephant craft to take home for their dresser or living room china hutch.
Friday – April 30 Lion and Cheetah
The lions are back at the Oregon Zoo, this time though they have friends with them for all to enjoy. The children will be able to view these magnificent animals in their enclosures. The Oregon Zoo has built each breed of cat an enclosure so close to their natural home that the cats love to move about for all too see.
Friday – May 7 Flying Feathers, Crawling Scales
This class will give your child the chance to explore the movements, texture, locomotion and body coverings of animals with feathers, pelts and even armor.
Friday – May 21 Monkeys, Apes & Me
We can swing just like the monkeys and apes but who uses a tail to swing? The children will be taught the difference between the great gorilla and a monkey and they will have more fun doing this with the classroom activities then any other summer class or games.
Friday – June 4 Birds, Beautiful Birds
Birds from all around the world are colorful with the male being the most beautiful of almost every species of bird. Your child will visit the Africa birds up close and personal while they explore the shapes, and colors of all of The Oregon Zoo’s bird populations.
These two classes are for children 5 to 6 years of age:
Saturday – April 10 Elephants, Elephants, Elephants
The children get to assist in making a salad just for the elephants at The Oregon Zoo, along with a craft of their own and a visit right to the great elephant house on the zoo grounds.
Saturday – May 22 Predators of the Serengeti
The Oregon Zoos new exhibit is open and the classroom will visit them to learn about the not so big and really big predators of Africa. This class will include a lesson on the big cats, lions, cheetah and also the African wild dogs and caracals. Always a great enjoyment for the children of the Oregon Zoo and one of the Zoos most visited exhibits since its completion.
