What a show. I mean that in that the two main event matches more than delivered. Our road to WrestleMania is now pretty clear and I couldn’t be happier about it. WWE provided great entertainment in the title matches. Well done. The Road to WrestleMania will be outstanding.
WWE Title Elimination Chamber Match – Sheamus vs. Triple H vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Kofi Kingston
Entrance order was this: Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston to start it out. Next was Triple H, followed by Randy Orton. Next was Ted DiBiase, and finally, John Cena entered the match. All six men were in the Chamber at once for one of the first times ever. We saw some very, very good stuff here. Here’s the important stuff:
Orton and DiBiase teamed up until Cena came in. Orton had Cena beat when Cody Rhodes ran down with a steel pipe. He called to Orton but RKO ignored him. He threw the pipe in and DiBiase picked it up and hit both Randy and Cena with it. He then pinned Randy.
Almost immediately, Kofi Kingston then eliminated Ted DiBiase.
Turn that around and Kofi was eliminated by Sheamus.
Sheamus turned his attention to Cena and was blindsided by Triple H. Triple H hit the Pedigree and the WWE Champion was out. It’s down to Cena and HHH.
Cena almost immediately locked on the STF and in about a minute, HHH tapped.
Cena is the new WWE Champion!
BUT HOLD ON!
Vince McMahon comes out and says that Cena will now be forced to face Batista immediately. Batista comes in the ring, Cena hits one punch and gets speared. He hits Cena with the Batista Bomb.
New WWE Champion is Batista.
Great stuff here – I can’t believe it…but WWE actually made a story line come full circle! Now we know why Batista didn’t worry about his Elimination Chamber match and why he helped Vince McMahon. Great job here.
WWE Intercontinental Title Match – Drew McIntyre vs. Kane
McIntyre wins by poking Kane in the eye and hitting his DDT. Great move – it prolongs the feud and Kane loses nothing.
Divas Title Match – Gail Kim vs. Maryse
We found out Gail Kim speaks French so she knows Maryse was burying her the past few weeks. Vicki Guerrero comes out and changes this to a tag match between Maryse/Gail vs. Michelle McCool/Layla. Maryse doesn’t help Gail so they lose. Maryse then lays out Gail after the match. So we still don’t have a Divas champ. Whatever. Allow me to remind you to check out SHIMMER: Women Athletes for the absolute best women’s wrestling in the world.
World Heavyeight Championship Elimination Chamber – Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. R-Truth
Punk and R-Truth started this one out. Punk eliminated R-Truth and then got on the mic and talked smack. Great stuff from Punk.
Out next was Mysterio. He and Punk put on five minutes of fantastic professional wrestling. Rey eliminated Punk after a huricanrana onto the Chamber floor.
Out next was Jericho, followed by John Morrison. These three go at it at a great pace until Morrison eliminates Mysterio after the Starship Pain. Huge boost for Morrison.
Undertaker comes out next and takes control taking out Jericho and Morrison. He eliminates Morrison by chokeslamming him on the Chamber floor and pinning him in the ring.
It’s down to Jericho vs. Undertaker. Both men hit big moves and big submissions but can’t beat one another. Just as Taker is about to Tombstone Jericho, out from under the Chamber comes Shawn Michaels. He superkicks Undertaker and Jericho gets the pin.
Your NEW World Heavyweight Champion – Chris Jericho.
The show ends with Michaels standing over Undertaker’s body.
So, so, so outstanding. This was exactly what it needed to be. WrestleMania’s path is pretty clear here.
The show itself was OK when you factor in the middle of the show. However, if you look at the two main events, the show was beyond outstanding. I cannot wait for Raw tomorrow, SmackDown’s taping in Milwaukee on Tuesday, and the next five weeks.
We are officially on the Road to WrestleMania…
