Already gearing up for the 2010 season, the Brooklyn Cyclones have recently unveiled a new logo commemorating the team’s 10th season, which will start on June 18 against Staten Island.
The logo, which can be found on the official website of the Brooklyn Cyclones, is in the shape of a diamond, and features the Coney Island skyline. At the top of the logo, “Brooklyn Cyclones” is written in blue script, honoring Brooklyn’s last baseball team, the Dodgers. The logo also has “10 Seasons” at the bottom, as it is commemorating the 10th season of Cyclone baseball, and not the teams 10th anniversary. Red and gold, the team’s other two colors, are used in the background of the image.
The Cyclones have also reached out to their fans to come up with a uniform design that will be worn by the team for one game this season. Young fans, ages 5-16, will get a chance to show off their artistic side with the “YOUniform” art contest, which will allow one artistically-gifted fan the opportunity to have the Cyclones wear a uniform designed by him or herself.
A panel will determine the five finalists, and those five entries will then be places on the www.brooklyncyclones.com, where Cyclones fans can vote for the design they want to see their team play in this season. Those entries will also be on display at the Brooklyn Baseball Gallery at KeySpan Park.
The winner of the contest will receive a Cyclones prize pack, a framed jersey autographed by the 2010 Cyclones, and will throw out a ceremonial first pitch at the game that the YOUniform is being worn.
In addition to being a fun, fan-friendly promotion, the YOUniform art contest will be in support of a good cause. The Cyclones’ jerseys will be auctioned off after the game and the proceeds will go to Camp Brooklyn, an organization that gives children from low-income homes an opportunity to attend overnight camps at no cost. Last summer, Camp Brooklyn sent 200 children on two-week getaways to these camps.
“One talented winner will be extremely happy and many more kids will benefit, thanks to the contest’s association with Camp Brooklyn,” said Cyclones’ general manager Steve Cohen, according to the team’s official website.
