According to the internet doll rumor mill, Ashton Drake is producing one last Gene doll in 2010 called Butterfly Shadow. As reported in Who is Gene? Gene Marshall: fashion doll, the Gene doll, created by designer Mel Odom, was introduced by Ashton-Drake (AD) in 1995, but at the end of 2005, it was announced that Ashton-Drake Galleries would no longer produce new Gene Marshall dolls and outfits. Integrity Toys has been producing Gene for the last five years.
However, as announced in Mel Odom retires Gene doll; Gene Marshall line ends in 2010, Gene is being retired and is going out with a bang with one of each doll in the Gene Marshall collection – including Trent, Violet, Ivy and Madra – being made for the last Gene convention in 2010. This is where some fan conjecture has been making the rounds.
A source close to Miss Marshall (actually Eva in Nashville who has strong ties to the Gene community), has indicated one last Gene doll may be issued by AD in exchange for AD allowing Integrity Toys (IT) to use the Trent model. It seems that when IT assumed the rights to the Gene collection, new molds were made for all the dolls except Trent.

Since IT has promised collectors one last Trent doll and may not want to create a new mold just to make one doll, there is speculation that a deal has been struck between Ashton Drake and Integrity.
What is known is that Ashton-Drake has aligned itself with Gene Marshall one last time, and a special Gene is being issued to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of AD. Called Butterfly Shadow, the new Gene will retail for $199.99.
It looks like Gene Marshall saved the last dance for Ashton-Drake after all.
