Disneyland in Anaheim is a great place for a fun filled family vacation. The moment you enter the Magic Kingdom you are transported into a magical world which brings out the kid in everyone. From rides of all kinds, live shows and musical entertainment, sweets, treats and fine dining, street party parades and fireworks that illuminate the sky, Disney has something for everyone. Here are some tips to get the most out of your Disneyland trip.
Rides that young children will love:
- Astro Blasters: Join Toy Story’s Buzz Lightyear for an intergalactic battle where you get points for blasting targets in space. This ride stirs up some healthy family competition as everyone competes for the highest Space Ranger score, and the expressions everyone makes in their hidden camera Astro Blaster photos are hilarious. The photos are free and can be emailed to you when you exit the ride.
- Dumbo The Flying Elephant: For kids who don’t have a fear of heights and want to soar over Fantasyland, take a ride with Dumbo and his pal Timothy Mouse. The cool thing about this ride is you can control how high your Dumbo cart goes.
Rides that teens and adults will love:
- Splash Mountain – This ride combines the thrill of a roller coaster with the fun of cruising through the Briar Patch in a log flume. You will get wet on this ride and depending upon where you are sitting you could get soaked. It is recommended to go on Splash Mountain on a warm afternoon so you’ll dry off and not be walking around the park cold and wet.
- Indiana Jones Adventure – Board a jeep and join Indy searching for treasure in the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. This thrilling ride has three different tunnels, so depending on where you’re headed you’ll score a different award.
Where to dine:
Inside the park, you’ll find tons of options from veggie burgers, pizza, pasta and salads to sweets like candy apples, home made ice cream, fresh fudge and Churros. If you want to save money, consider bringing your own sandwiches and snacks in a backpack to the park. If you’d like more upscale dinning options, Dowtown Disney has a few great spots. Catal offers Mediterranean cuisine and Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria has some great pasta dishes and delicious pizzas with all of the toppings. Both restaurants are very reasonably priced.
Rain or Shine:
Grab a poncho or umbrella and head to Disneyland on a rainy day (not suggesting severe thunderstorms, just a light drizzle) and you’ll find that the lines will disappear and you can walk on just about any ride without a wait. Also, weekdays tend to be much less crowded then weekends and if you have an Annual Pass, Disneyland allows you to enter the park an hour earlier then everyone else in the morning so you can get in some extra rides without the long lines.
Whether you’re 8 or 80 years old, you’ll feel like a kid at heart when you visit Disneyland.
