In today’s Do It All Mamas (& Papas) the spotlight is on Heather Hultgren, mom to 8 year old Connor and 6 year old Kayla and the founder of Cherished Voices.
Examiner: Tell me something unique/interesting about yourself.
Heather: I was an exchange student in Switzerland when I was 14 years old. It helped build who I am now. Learning to live and fend for yourself in a foreign country. I grew up a lot those 6 months, learned a lot about myself and learned how to rely on my own passion and strength.
Examiner: What is your business all about?
Heather: Cherished Voices is bedtime stories by you…when you can’t be there. The first ever gift that allows you to record your voice reading to your special child. Childhood is supposed to be a cherished experience, but it can be difficult when a child can’t be with someone they love as often as they like. Whether that special someone is a deployed parent, a far away grand-parent or a traveling parent, a Cherished Voice CD will bring the comfort of hearing those special voices of their loved ones even when they can’t be there in person. Each CD package is designed to bring children joy, familiarity, and smiles because they now have the ability to fall asleep listening to the voices they love.
Examiner: What is your favorite product that you make or sell and why do you like or recommend it?
Heather: Hooray For You Gift Package – it is a beautiful book that emphasizes the beauty and uniqueness of every child. All you need is a phone and a pin code in order to record this special book to your child.
Examiner: Why did you start your business?
Heather: I started Cherished Voices because when my son was born in 2001 there was nothing on the market that allowed him to get to know his grandparents in Minnesota that he would rarely get to see. Eight years later the technology was there that allows parents and grandparents to read bedtime stories to their children that are thousands of miles away. Last year my children’s grandfather was killed unexpectedly and I did not want others to miss out on the same opportunity to create such a beautiful heirloom. A cherished keepsake for a lifetime.
Examiner: What secret do you have to share with other parents about “having it all” with your family and business?
Heather: Prioritize! And always put your family and children first (with small rest times when you can for you!) Using late night hours to work is helpful and allows more time to be with your children while they are awake and in need of your attention.
Examiner: What is the number one piece of advice you have for other parents?
Heather: Your inbox will still be full, even when your gone… :) Take every opportunity for time together every time you can.
Examiner: What is your (and your kids) favorite family activity?
Heather: Our favorite family activities are Wednesday game night, Friday movie night and cherished moments in the desert riding quads and getting away from any form of television, computer or responsibility.
Examiner: Anything else you want to add?
Heather: Find your families passion and be sure to spend as much time as you can doing it together as a family — with no outside influences! Memories, memories, memories!
