This week on Days, Sami let EJ know that she trusted Rafe to bring Sydney back to them and she was never going to give up on her little girl. When EJ replied that Sydney was probably dead, Sami said she forgave him because he was obviously speaking out of grief. After EJ left the pub, he went straight to the cabin where Anna was hiding Sydney. While EJ ranted about Sami taking Rafe back, saying he wasn’t going to be satisfied until she had nothing left, Anna received a phone call. Rafe called her into the police station for questioning.
While Anna went to the police station, EJ went to the pier. He removed Sydney’s clothes from a plastic bag that were stained with blood (from a bloody nose) and threw them into the water. Then he called Sami and asked her to meet him at the DiMera mansion, where he apologized for his rudeness. She thanked him for his apology but they soon began to argue over Johnny’s care and Rafe’s involvement in his life. Meanwhile, as Rafe questioned Anna, he got a call and somberly told Anna she was free to go.
Rafe arrived at the mansion as Sami and EJ argued. Rafe informed them that baby clothes believed to be Sydney’s were found floating in the river and that there was blood on them. As Sami began to sob, EJ said that since Sydney was kidnapped in Cleveland and her clothes weren’t unique, he still had hope. Rafe said they were running tests and would know soon if the blood was Sydney’s.
As Sami cried in EJ’s arms, Rafe got a call and said sadly that the blood on the clothes was Sydney’s. Rafe promised Sami that no matter what, he would find out who was responsible Sami said she didn’t care who was responsible. As she cried, EJ tried to hide his smile. Sami and Rafe went to the Brady Pub where Lucas comforted Sami. EJ went to the cabin. Anna begged EJ not to let Sami think Sydney was dead, reminding him that even though Sami had done some terrible things in the past, she was a mother who didn’t deserve to lose another child. EJ told Anna that Sydney and Johnny were better off with him and that he was planning a new life with them.
Bo went to the cannery basement and found Hope buried under the boxes. He carried her out as the paramedics arrived. At the hospital, Bo was told that Hope should make a full recovery. As Hope slowly regained consciousness, Bo asked her what had happened. All Hope could say was “Carly” before she passed out again.
Chloe went to the hospital to see Daniel after Melanie and Phillip’s wedding. Daniel surprised her with a sonogram appointment. Dr. White congratulated Chloe on her pregnancy and began the sonogram. Dr. White’s face fell as she sadly told Chloe and Daniel that she couldn’t find any evidence of a baby. Chloe dismissed her claim, swearing she had morning sickness and was gaining weight, plus had the positive pregnancy tests to prove it. Daniel explained to Chloe that she had wanted to be pregnant so badly, her body had begun to produce the hormones. A devastated Chloe sobbed in Daniel’s arms, saying she felt like a fool. Daniel told her that he was sorry, that he loved her, and that they had options. The next day, Daniel told Chloe that he thought she needed some help and booked her an appointment with a psychiatrist. Chloe said she was fine and canceled her appointment.
After Melanie and Phillip’s wedding, Stephanie stepped outside of the mansion and ran into Nathan. Nathan told her he didn’t want to wait and asked her to go to Alpine Valley with him right then. Stephanie agreed, telling Nathan that she wanted what Phillip and Melanie had and that she believed she could have it with him. They went to the lodge for a few days of skiing and sex. Stephanie re-read Melanie’s note to Nathan. When Nathan asked Stephanie what it was, she said it was a letter from Melanie. Nathan said he didn’t want to talk about Melanie and asked Stephanie to join him in the shower. Stephanie ripped up the letter.
After the wedding, Melanie stepped into the foyer and ran into Vivian. Vivian said she had some life-changing news for Melanie and asked her to join her upstairs. Vivian led Melanie to the rooftop and said she had some news about her mother. Melanie eagerly asked what she knew as Vivian led her closer to the edge of the roof.
“I’m afraid we don’t really have time for that,” Vivian said as she pushed Melanie toward the edge. Just then, Carly burst through the door and screamed at Vivian to get her hands off Melanie. Vivian grabbed a metal pipe and raised it above Melanie’s head. Carly pulled out a gun and, just as she shot at Vivian, Melanie got in the way and took the bullet. Carly screamed in horror as Melanie crumpled to the ground. Vivian announced that Carly had done her work for her though she was obviously upset that Melanie had been shot.
Downstairs, the guests reacted to the gunshot. Phillip and Brady raced upstairs and found Carly huddled over Melanie. When Phillip asked what happened, Carly cried, “I shot her. I shot my own daughter!” Phillip tried to pull Carly off Melanie, but she fought him off, saying she had to keep pressure on the wound. Lexie ran upstairs and began to tend to the gunshot wound while telling Abe to call the hospital and tell the staff to prepare for surgery. Brady held Carly back and she begged them to let her help her daughter.
Daniel stepped out of Chloe’s hospital room just in time to see Melanie on a stretcher followed by Lexie and Phillip. Lexie explained that Carly had shot Melanie and ordered him to scrub up. As Daniel and Lexie took Melanie away, Phillip asked Carly why she had shot Melanie if she really was her mother. Carly swore she was trying to save Melanie from Vivian and that it was an accident. Phillip vowed to kill Carly if Melanie died.
Daniel and Lexie worked desperately to save Melanie. They stabilized her but she remained comatose. Bo stepped out of Hope’s hospital room and tried to reassure Carly. Carly begged them to let her stay at the hospital until she knew Melanie would be OK, but Abe said that wasn’t possible. While Abe arrested Vivian, Bo arrested Carly and they all went to the police station. Vivian refused to cooperate with Bo, who was soon forced to release her due to lack of evidence but told her not to get too comfortable. Carly was taunted by visions of Lawrence.
The next morning, Bo told Carly that Melanie had made it through the night. As Carly berated herself, Bo told her not to let Lawrence and Vivian win. He said he’d prove that Vivian was trying to kill Melanie and that everything Carly had done had been out of love for her daughter. Bo listened with pity as Carly described her terrible night in jail. Later, he informed her that he’d posted her bail. Carly didn’t want to accept his generosity, but he told her it had already been done. Bo said there was a restraining order against her and she was not to get within 20 feet of Melanie. When Bo left the room, Carly grabbed her coat and vowed to be near her daughter.
Hope woke up and found Justin in the room with her. She told him she knew what Vivian had been planning to do and that she needed to find Bo. Despite the doctors’ advice, Hope checked herself out of the hospital and went to the police station, where she told Bo she was the one person who could get Carly out of the mess she was in. When she asked to speak to Carly, Bo told her that she’d been released. Hope asked who had bailed her out. When Bo admitted that he had used his own money, Hope’s eyes filled with tears. Bo said it was because he felt sorry for Carly. Hope said it was because he loved her.
Hope said that when Bo rescued her from the basement, she had hoped that things would change for the two of them. “It’s too late, isn’t it?” she asked, and ran from the room when Bo didn’t answer her.
Phillip, Maggie and Brady took turns talking to Melanie in hopes that they could hear her. Carly snuck into the hospital and waited until Phillip left to sneak into Melanie’s room. Daniel caught Carly and chastised her, reminding her of the restraining order. Carly begged and pleaded with Daniel until he finally let her into Melanie’s room. As Carly cried and talked to Melanie, Melanie slowly opened her eyes and looked at Carly.
