At the recent Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in Sacramento a panel discussed inspirational marketing for wineries, particularly concerning the current trends in the proliferation of food, cooking and wine-inspired TV shows and movies. Culinary tourism has arrived, and wine is certainly an important part of that trend.
The growing “Millennial” generation (those born since 1980) is more optimistic and their wine purchasing patterns reflect this optimism. They are indulging in wine purchases to a greater extent than the older Boomers generation (born between 1946 and 1964. Even with the recession, Millennials are consuming more wine both at home and while dining and socializing out.
