A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin to promote clear, well-hydrated skin. A facial is the second most popular spa service after massage. It is sometimes called a “deep-cleansing facial” or “deep-pore cleansing” facial because of extractions.
Since spas already charge you so much for something so simple, you might as well have your own facials at home! Here are some very simple homemade facial masks:
Egg Whites and Yogurt Mask. You’ll need 2 egg whites, separated from the yolk and placed in a bowl. And 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt (Greek yogurt preferred). Mix the ingredients together and place apply to face for 5-10 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Oatmeal and Yogurt Mask. You’ll need 1 tablespoon of oatmeal, finely ground. 1 tablespoon of yogurt, and a few drops of honey. Mix the oatmeal and yogurt together, then add a few drops of warm honey. Apply to face for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.
The above masks are great for all types of skin, however, if you have oily or acne-prone skin, here are a few other masks that you could try.
Banana Mask. You’ll need 1 banana, 1 tablespoon of honey and an orange or lemon. Mix the banana and honey together, then add a teaspoon of orange or lemon juice. Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth.
Clay Mask. You’ll need a basic fuller’s earth clay, 1 teaspoon of honey, water and your favorite essential oil. Mix 2 parts water (or half and half) to 1 part clay then mix in the honey. Add more water if clay is too dry, and add the oil. Apply mask for 15 minutes and rinse with a steaming washcloth.
If you have dry skin, try out this mask out.
Avocado Mask. ½ of an avocado and ¼ cup of honey. Mash the avocado in a bowl, then stir in honey. Apply to skin for 10 minutes and rinse with a cool washcloth.
Facials can be done in many ways, but masks are the most common. There are other procedures like cleansing, exfoliating and a popular procedure called Micro Dermabrasion. Microderm abrasion is a simple, straight forward, non-invasive procedure that revitalizes dull skin, reduces large pores, erases fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, reduces mild pigment irregularities (hyperpigmentation), stretch marks and age spots.
It is equally effective to other skin treatments (on superficial imperfections) and, most importantly, it allows you to get back to your daily routine immediately after treatment.
