Mark Sloan rushed his daughter to Addison in Los Angeles on “Grey’s Anatomy” Thursday after an ultrasound led them to believe something was wrong with her unborn child.
It all started when Lexie gave Sloane an ultrasound. Between their bickering (they aren’t getting along at all, although Mark claims Sloane only likes Lexie), Lexie noticed something off in the photograph. Several of the limbs were constricted by strands of amniotic fluid. Mark kept telling his daughter everything would be fine, and they would fix it, but when he walked outside of her room he immediately called Addison.
Addison was very confident going in to surgery, but when she went in and found it would be more difficult than first imagined because of enlarged arteries, Mark demanded she stop. He refused to take the risk of her bleeding out on to the table. Addison told Mark he shouldn’t have been in the operating room to start with because he is her parent, but Mark refused to believe that is why he stopped her. She suggested they try again, but he refused, so she decided it was time to go home.
When Sloane found out they hadn’t fixed anything, she begged Mark to let her go through with the surgery one more time. With a little help from Lexie, Mark said OK, and the pair decided to go see Addison in Los Angeles. In their moment of happiness and bonding, Mark asked Sloane to live with him and Lexie.
Later, Lexie expressed her upset about Mark agreeing to let Sloane and the baby move in to Mark. He didn’t see her side at all, and when it all came down to it he admitted that if she made him choose he would choose his daughter. “I think our relationship just ended,” she said. She then kissed him and walked away. That night, Lexie ended up having too much to drink and sleeping with Alex.
Derek spent half of the episode trying to set Miranda up on a date after some probably poor advice from Callie and Addison. Obviously, Miranda had no interest in anyone Derek brought to her, and she caught on pretty quick to what was happening.
Teddy put Cristina on an exciting and challenging surgery. The surgery didn’t have Cristina worried, but she wasn’t sure she was going to survive the patient, who was extremely picky and demanding. After Cristina spent all morning studying the mechanical valve, the patient wanted a pig valve because it was more “organic.” Cristina tried to complain to Teddy, but she was quickly shot down and told that the last minute procedure switch just meant she would be learning that much more. After she prepped for the pig valve the patient began wondering if a cow valve would be a better idea. She insisted Cristina show her each valve to see if one of them spoke to her. With a good kick in the butt from Cristina and a picture in her head of both valves, the patient went with the pig. When surgery time came, Cristina had a patient near death. She was having a lot of difficulties, and Teddy was sitting there reading a magazine paying no attention. At first, it seemed like Teddy was trying to sabotage Cristina, possibly because of her jealousy toward Cristina, but she knew Cristina could save that patient’s life. And she did. After the surgery, Teddy told Owen she was just trying to push her. I’m not sure what the conversation was after that because viewers didn’t see it, but it led to Teddy deciding to leave Seattle. Cristina ran after her, begging her to stay, and when she asked what it would take for her to stay Teddy replied, “Owen,” and Cristina screamed, “OK.”
Meredith was very suspicious of Alex and Reed’s relationship after overhearing Reed ask Alex for drinks in a very provocative way. She was flirting… a lot! Meredith warned Alex that he was crossing a line, but Alex told her that he was moving on. So, Meredith called Izzie. Izzie, of course, didn’t answer, but Meredith left a message telling Izzie she needed to know Alex was getting ready to move on. Later, Alex told Reed that he doesn’t trade surgery for sex, and if she wanted sex to ask for it. If she wanted surgery, kiss an attending’s butt.
