Haiti suffered a strong aftershock on Wednesday at 6:03 am with a 5.9 reading on the Richter scale; the quake occurred around 35 miles from Port-au-Prince. Last week’s 7.0 earthquake killed approximately 200,000 people in Haiti, and left thousands injured and over a million people homeless. Although a massive and international relief effort has been launched, there are still struggles in distributing supplies into Haiti; and now there’s disaster on top of disaster. How much more can one endure?
The weather is one of the only things that man cannot control. It’s the most powerful force of God’s creation at work on earth; it is unleashed energy by God. The weather has an effect on many things in life. A farmer’s success or failure depends on the weather; it can make or break a crop and cause financial ruin to growers. The weather also navigates the oceans, the land, and the air. It determines how people dress and even how they drive. It can also devastate a country and create a massive loss of life, as seen during Haiti’s earthquake and hurricane Katrina.
Although many people are feeling quite helpless when it comes to helping the people of Haiti; continue to pray, donate, and get involved however you can. Prayer changes things. There have been remarkable survivor stories. On Wednesday, the eighth day since the quake took place, a little 5 year old boy was pulled out of the rubble alive. People, and even babies, are still being rescued alive after being trapped for over a week; it’s miraculous, and more rescues continue. The International world has come together to help Haiti; and God bless America!
Although storms of any degree can be devastating and frightening, one must have faith to know that only the God of the scriptures has all the forces of nature at his command and He has the power to unleash or restrain them at His will. The same God that produces the storms has the power to stop them. “The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen. He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through them. At his direction they swirl around over the whole earth to do whatever he commands them.” (Job 37:10-12) God has total control over the storms on Earth, and in the lives of his people. “His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.” (Nahum 1:3)
