His House of Columbia, Inc. is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian ministry that was established in 1974. His House sponsors Grace Men’s Programs in West Columbia and Lexington. They provide a supervised residential rehabilitation program for alcoholic men. They also provide housing for men at several different area locations.
The Oak Tree Mission, also supported by His House, provides a night-time shelter for transient and homeless men. The Meeting Street Chapel, located at 775 Meeting Street in Columbia, provides a Christian sanctuary and fellowship for men and friends of His House and to any person in the local community. Their Charity Outreach provides a Christian support to national and international missionary works.
Some of the facts about His House ministries are amazing. They provide about 21,000 beds yearly for shelter, 43,000 meals yearly for homeless men, and free clothing and toilet supplies to transient men sheltered in their mission. His House also provides free clothing to some 5,000 people each year. They also provide $30,000 in Scholarships each year to qualifying students involved in The Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The two thrift shops I have visited are well lighted, well stocked and organized, and provide ample off-street parking. Clothing is sorted by item, but not by size. All blouses and tops are together, as are jeans, sleepwear, skirts and dresses. It may take a bit of searching to find the size and style you are looking for. I was fortunate enough to find a springtime purple floral flutter sleeve top that is fully lined and has modest ruffles at the hemline. It is by axcess and appears to be flawless. It’s an extremely versatile piece for any spring and summer wardrobe – cool, classy and chic. The price was $1.00.
