In response to a request by more than 40 pastors and ministry leaders throughout Arizona, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer issued an historic proclamation, that Sunday, January 17, 2010 be declared a Day of Prayer for Arizona’s Economy and State Budget. The Governor’s proclamation can be viewed at the following link, and read as follows:
DAY OF PRAYER FOR ARIZONA’S ECONOMY & STATE BUDGET
WHEREAS, throughout our national history government leaders including Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, Governors and Congress have called for a day of prayer to humbly ask God for His forgiveness blessing and guidance during times of difficulty; and
WHEREAS, the unique motto of the State of Arizona, Diatat Deus – “God Enriches” acknowledges the blessings of God; and
WHEREAS, Arizona is suffering from the severe effects of a prolonged national and state economic recession that threatens the livelihood of many of our citizens and challenges the quality of life for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, throughout this day of prayer we ask for God’s favor, blessing, wisdom and guidance to rest upon our state government, businesses and our citizens that God would guide our state government leaders to resolve the state’s budget deficit, renew the vitality of our state’s economy and that God would aid and empower the citizens and businesses in our state and in our nation.
NOW, THEREFORE I, Janice K. Brewer, Governor of the State of Arizona do hereby proclaim
January 17, 2010 as a
“DAY OF PRAYER FOR ARIZONA’S ECONOMY AND STATE BUDGET”
And encourage all citizens to pray for God’s blessing’s on our State and our Nation.
IN WITNESS WHERE OF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Arizona
Janice K. Brewer – Governor
Many churches throughout Arizona rose up that day and prayed after this manner:
– We repent, O God, we have not always put You first. We have served other things and put our trust in ourselves — our careers and finances — rather than You, but we now appeal to the God who enriches us and agree with our state motto, Ditat Deus, which means “God Enriches!”
– O God, bless our governor and legislators and give them wisdom and guidance to resolve the budget crisis. May the people of Arizona and her government leaders humble themselves, recognizing that the problems are too big, we are too small, and You alone can heal Arizona’s economy.
– We proclaim Almighty God as Lord over the land and people of Arizona—may Your presence come bringing justice, righteousness, mercy, restoration and revival. We give You thanks, honor and all the glory! Amen.
