Much of the media today is reporting domestic extremism (code for terrorism) to be the main concern for Homeland Security. Apparently they are trying to figure out the cause and deal with it before it gets to be a problem.
I feel much safer when bureaucrats try to figure out the cause of something, especially domestic terrorism. To some it isn’t very hard to figure out. We just don’t get paid the $70,000 a year to sit there and think about it. It all starts with freedom and those who don’t know what freedom is will have a hard time figure it out.
America used to be a place where immigrants could seek refuge. They assimilated because the feeling of finally being free was so overwhelming they wouldn’t even think of going back to the old countries. The only way you could paint the transition would be leaving a barren desert and arriving in a lush forest where opportunity is abundant.
They also assimilated well because in order to enter the United States they had to learn our culture, traditions and Constitution. Now we just give anyone a visa, bypass laws, and disgrace those who worked so hard to get here.
We had and still have rules in this country but they only seem to apply to the people and not the government. Therein lays the problem.
No one should be exempt from a law and especially the Constitution for which we stand. When you go to war without a declaration or just start handing citizenship out to those who have not earned it among other things you are going to have problems. When you make up the rules as you go such in the case of the IRS and the Austin pilot you are going to have problems. Many were not surprised by that mans actions.
When bureaucracies rule and there is no one to hold accountable, people tend to get angry. I could state many cases where someone working for a bureaucracy loves the power they have over another individual and abuses it. It happens everyday.
In the case of Muslim extremists, maybe they still have a strong bond with the country they left behind or feel a special bond to their religious brotherhood. For young people it is an identity. You don’t have to travel far to see corruption here in America and no one seems to ever be held accountable. Were the banks held accountable? Were the representatives that forced the hand of lenders held accountable? If there is no justice how could we ever hope for peace?
When these young people see the corruption and actually experience it themselves in some cases it triggers a switch. The people in charge don’t seem to care and that is a major problem. Just like parents government needs to be setting a good example. If you want people from other lands to assimilate you need to give them a reason to. During World War 2 many German soldiers were held here in camps. They were given freedoms they never had and opportunities here grew like leaves in the spring. Many studied our Constitution and came back to start new lives. They were proud to be Americans.
You want to stop domestic terrorism? Get back to what made this country so great and there won’t be a need for Homeland Security.
