Do you hear footsteps when no one is up walking? Do you hear doors slam, see appliances or lights go on or off unaided, hear strange sounds, knocking, music, voices or moans. Do you smell perfume or cigars that no one uses? Do you see white, dark or misty figures, or even full apparitions? Do you hear your name being called? Do items levitate or move without you’re doing it?
Do you feel like you’re being watched? Have you been hit, slapped, pinched or touched in some way? Are some rooms inexplicably colder than others? Do you hear furniture moving about? Does your pet refuse to enter certain rooms? Do you sometimes feel lightheaded and/or nauseous?
If so, you may have an incarnate spirit in your home.
However, there are different types of hauntings and some activity may happen due to ghostly visitors, who drop in now and then just to check on you or other members of your family. These most often are relatives and friends who have passed over but are still concerned about you.
There is also such a thing as Poltergeist Phenomenon that can result in such things as items being moved, strange rappings, appliances turning on and off, and so on. In this instance, you are experiencing a more kinetic type of haunting that often occurs when someone – perhaps a teenager – with an overt amount of excess energy resides in the home.
You may also have a residual haunting where certain people and/or events are imbedded in the atmosphere of your ‘space.’ In these types of cases, spirits go about their business as usual without even noticing you. This can occur due to a violent act, such as a former battle on your property or untimely death within your home, such as was the case with Pamela.
Hauntings, on the other hand, involve spirits who remain in your home all the time and this can occur for various reasons. If someone lived many years in your home, they might simply not want to leave and when they see you making changes to their former home, it could upset them enough to cause them to react in some way. A spirit might think they still own the home or the land it sits on and feels you have no right to be there.
Other reasons spirits might remain include having unfinished business. If a person died violently, he or she may want the living to know what happened to them. There are cases where ghosts have lingered hoping to see a loved one again, even thought that person may have moved on. Some spirits simply don’t know they’re dead and will continue doing the things they did while alive. Others may know their dead but are afraid to go to the light, often due to things they did during their earthly lives or because they did not expect to find themselves still aware on the other side and don’t know how to move on.
Whatever the reason for a spirit in your home, there’s no need to fear. Extremely violent entities are quite rare. And often folks don’t even know they’re sharing their home with ghosts.
