When looking for a party crowd in Roanoke, there are a couple of places that first pop into mind. One such place is Buffalo Wild Wings. The largest venue for viewing televised sports events in Roanoke, Buffalo Wild Wings at Tanglewood Mall (or B-Dubs, as it’s been affectionately nicknamed) has always drawn a large crowd. But since adding Karaoke to the entertainment four years ago, B-Dubs has seen a 70% increase in Thursday night business.
Karaoke runs from 10:00-1:00 on Thursdays. DJ “DJ” of Quest entertainment runs the show, and it truly is Karaoke for the party crowd. Ian Wiles, who follows Quest’s shows, likes the energy and that DJ, “always gets a crowd jumpin.” DJ sets up his equipment in the back corner next to the pool tables and runs the show simultaneously with the sports broadcasts. B-Dubs singers will sing on corded mics, with one screen for viewing lyrics. Quest offers a digital selection of 20,000 plus songs with an updated song book.
In addition, DJ runs strict rules about on the mic behavior, not allowing cursing or poor attitudes, which runs in line with the average Roanoke Karaoke bar. At 11:00, slow songs, heavy metal and rap are barred from the song selection, in an attempt to keep the crowd lively. As with all Quest shows, B-Dubs does not follow a standard Karaoke rotation. Rather, singers sign up on a notebook, which helps the KJ to get to know the singers, and then singers are grouped by song style. Also, they try to make sure that new singers get a chance to sing over repeat singers. A favorable asset to Buffalo wild Wings is the ability to perform live on the big screen with Web cam capabilities.
Buffalo Wild Wings specializes in hot wings and offers a wide variety of wings as well as other delicious items on the menu. There is plenty of seating in either the main dining area or the bar room, and excellent parking availability. Be prepared to show ID at the door, where drinking age guests receive a wrist band.
Buffalo Wild Wings at Tanglewood Mall is not the place for the hard core Karaoke addict, but it is an excellent party atmosphere, with great food and good times. For those who wanna get loud and belt out a party tune, while catching their favorite team take the field, this is the only place to be.
Stay tuned for a possible Karaoke Contest annoucement.
