Join Facebook to cast your vote for a favorite charity on the list to win $1 million – it’s free. 100 charities listed by Facebook voters across the nation are in the running for the Chase Community Giving $1 million prize to be doled out by a special advisory board. You have until 10:59 p.m. Chicago time tonight, Friday, January 22, 2010, to cast up to five votes for any of the 100 charities that are in contention.
Ironically, Facebook can turn the phrase “Who you know” into “What you know, hope for and desire,” in regard to a lot of charitable causes. It is a testimony to “Know before you go.” On the website you can investigate the Facebook pages of the contenders to explore their dreams and hopes. Each charity lists their campaign, backed up by their Big Idea, comprised of The Issue, The Plan and The Outcome that they would address if they won the big prize money. All have noble and interesting goals, depending on where you want to focus your voice.
Each of the top 100 is already the recipient of $25,000 from the Chase Community Giving Project. Five runners-up will each receive $100,000. Chase already slated Haitiian relief donations to the tune of $1 million. It kind of makes you want to become a Facebook member, if nothing else, as these inside, socially responsive scoops arise. But, in the absence of contests like these, it can be equally informative to people interested in volunteering or donating to the charities on their own, to visit their websites.
Chicago area favorites join the ranks of many national favorites. As of noon today, #1 Invisible Children, Inc., based in San Diego, California, was leading the Top 100 Leaderboard, and eight Illinois-based charities made the rundown as follows:
