U.S. aid to Haitian earthquake victims is nothing more than a ‘colonial takeover,’ according to a Marxist-leaning organization which staged demonstrations last year during ‘Fleet Week’ in NYC.
“Washington has seized the opportunity to strengthen its grip on Haiti—-not only politically and economically, but militarily as well,” wrote James Circello of March Forward!
March Forward! is an organization which claims to consist of U.S. anti-war veterans.
“Coast Guard ships have been deployed to ensure any that any Haitians who attempt to flee the island will be captured and returned,’ Circello writes in his article dated January 20, 2010.
“The role of U.S. soldiers and marines will not be to aid the Haitian people in one of their most trying times. Their role will be to safeguard the interests of U.S. capital and quell any political unrest that is guaranteed to surface as Haitians scramble to survive amid the rubble.” .
March Forward! claims to be an affiliate of the ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism).
The Anit-Defamation League reported recently that ANSWER has organized scores of antiwar demonstrations in the U.S. since its founding by the New York-based International Action Center (IAC).
ANSWER has played a key role in inserting anti-Israel sentiment into the antiwar movement, according to ADL.
The International Action Center (IAC) was founded in 1992 by Ramsey Clark, former United States Attorney General under President Lyndon Johnson.
Clark is known for espousing controversial causes.
Circello’s article appeared almost simultaneously on The Party for Socialism and Liberation website.
That group opposes capitalism and war and urges a socialist revival.
Among Circello’s contentions:
–The U.S. military has taken control of all airports and naval ports in Haiti and determines what is allowed to come into the country and leave.
–People trying to leave Haiti have complained that U.S. forces are giving preferential treatment to U.S. citizens.
During last Memorial Day weekend–which coincided with the U.S. military’s Fleet Week in NYC–members of March Forward! hung banners at sites across NYC, according to an entry on their website commemorating the event.
Those locations included a bridge overlooking a heavily trafficked intersection near the United Nations and a bridge above Park Avenue near Grand Central Station.
March Forward! supports the right of all service members to refuse illegal and immoral orders, including orders to deploy to Afghanistan and Iraq.
