Local MC Kollision is releasing a new album on February 27, 2010. The artist describes the CD as including “A wide range of music…from industry beat freestyles to real life songs”. He has been practicing his craft since the 90s and lists his first song-writing inspiration as emerging after watching Kid-N-Play’s “House Party” and “Class Act” movies.
“It’s Kollision” is full of collaborations. Artists on the album include: Touchless, ATM Ent., Sick’LL SeLL, David Correy, Mona Lisa, R.Sinn, Legacy & TreyOnePound Ent., Hotts Brim (FME), Stretch Money, and J-Rizi among others. Kollision promises a CD that is among the “must bumpable CDs in Central New York” The choice to include so many local artists stems from an effort to support area artists. The artist has also become close to many of the people included on the album. He is thankful for this and to his family and friends for providing the support he “needed for the last several years”. Kollision’s favorite song form the album is called “See You Fly,” a song that deals with life’s hardships. In addition, Kollision has been hard at work with F.M.E. (SUEZAR, HOTTS BRIM, SPAZ, AND BIG P.), so fans can expect to keep hearing new music.
Kollision, who was born Matthew Poirier in Utica, NY, says that while he has fans around the world, he has “been a LOCAL artist since the beginning of my craft”. He admits that the support level is not that great in Utica. He is hoping to change this fact through his own work and the efforts of Rock Wit Us Records, CritterTV, and other local acts. He credits himself with making “a dent in the industry one song at a time”. The record label started up about one year ago. Prior to joining with the label, Kollision ran a studio from his home. They have come a long way in a year: “Rock Wit Us Records owns a 5,000 sq. foot nightclub with a state-of-the-art recording studio inside of it”
Kollison says that performing live is necessary in order “to maintain the buzz that my new CD has developed so far”. He began performing live at the former Club Amnesia, but since that building was taken down, his shows have moved to other local bars. In honor of the album dropping, Kollision will be playing at a private party at the Rock Wit Us Records Studio on the 27th of February at 8 pm. The cost varies: $5 for women and $10 for men. The first lucky people to walk through the door will receive a free CD. Those who attend will also be treated to coheadliner and host DJ Tone Spliff. Partygoers must be 21, and should plan to bring their own alcohol (juice will be available).
The live event should be enjoyable as this artist seems to thrive on being on stage. He explains that it feels great to know that the crowd is there to show support. “As long as you create a positive energy right from the beginning, live performances are a natural high that can’t be replaced”. Be sure to check him out!
