The Red Bloom Wellness Spa, is located in Bethesda, Maryland one block from the Bethesda Metro Station. According to the shop’s website, The Red Bloom’s goal is to create an ideal environment for one’s physical, mental and spiritual renewal. It is also committed to natural skincare and maintains a passion for the environment. “We believe the most powerful ingredients for our skin and body come from nature,” it proclaims. And its owner concurs.
Although its owner, Aesthetician/Makeup Artist, Germayn Williams has a resume that consists of numerous celebrity clients, she is very excited that through The Red Bloom, she has the capability to lead all of her clients along the path to wellness. “Beautiful, everyday ladies are my celebrities,” she adds.
The making of The Red Bloom by way of a delicious piece of cake.
Years ago, after tasting a ‘delicious’ piece of cake, Germayn Williams had a dream that that specific baker’s cake was in shops, boutiques — everywhere. And after the dream, she went in search of the baker, which was by no means an easy task, but when finally tracked down, she told the baker of her dream.
Years later – unbeknownst to the baker at the time, who gave her the side-eye after hearing what she had to say – the baker’s cakes are indeed sold everywhere, including Nordstrom. The baker also has since done several television appearances and has been interviewed by Oprah.
Not long after her ‘delicious cake’ dream, Germayn had another dream – it was of the concept of The Red Bloom spa, and since her ‘delicious cake’ dream had come to pass, she had no doubt that this would too. And again, 17 years later her dream came to fruition.
The name of the spa, is derived from the Christian teaching that the blood of Christ redeems and transforms believers. “Once we’re redeemed we turn into a wonderful bloom,” Germayn stated. Although its main emphasis is on skin, through personal consultations, The Red Bloom delves into its clients’ diets and lifestyles in order to treat the whole person from inside and out.
A high priority of The Red Bloom is to make people feel welcomed and loved. “Our tagline is it’s about the experience, ambiance, staff and amazing treatment,” Germayn adds. Services not only include, massages and facial/body hair waxing, but The Red Bloom offers in-depth wellness consultations, deep cleansing, rejuvenating facials (for men and women) as well as detoxifying body treatments, utilizing specialized nutrient rich, herbal preparations that cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin.
Speaking on the rise of interest in ‘all things natural’ she comments, ” I think it is wonderful. It’s the best thing for us in terms of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.” Germayn also wears her hair natural, and has been doing so for ten years. “Once you get it (natural hair maintenance) down, it’s easy and faster,” she said. She also plans to encourage her daughter to keep wearing her hair natural.
Her advice to others contemplating embarking on the journey of overall health and wellness is, “Read and get educated about ingredients. Just because it says ‘natural’ it may not be 100% natural.” Adding that people should become aware of the hierarchy of ingredients listed on products. According to Germayn, we are exposed to hundreds of chemicals everyday, even before leaving out of our own homes.
When it comes to using natural products she suggests that people don’t look at it as ‘eliminating’, but ‘substituting’. She suggests integrating natural products slowly into your daily routine i.e. switching from regular soap or deodorant to ones that are organic; switching from using an over-the-counter exfoliate to using natural sugar. Products used at The Red Bloom are 90% certified organic ingredients; the remainder being wild crafted sustainably sourced, or all natural.
The skilled therapists staffed at The Red Bloom also educate their clients about skincare and wellness therapies from a holistic perspective, in order for them to understand the cause and effect of lifestyle choices on the skin and body. Germayn stated that people need to be deprogrammed from using chemicals, and have to be open to embrace natural products. “And once they do, they will not turn back,” she added.
