Are you sick of the snow and ice and wind and rain by now and ready to escape to summer by the lake right now? Your cure is in Madison this weekend at the Alliant Energy Center’s Exhibition Hall. The Lake Home and Cabin Show runs from Friday, January 22 through Sunday, January 24.
Show organizer Steve Perkins says the show is for anyone who owns or wants a vacation home and describes the experience aptly, “It is a one stop shop whether you have a vacation home and are looking for ideas to make it more what you want, are looking for land to build a home on, have land and are looking for a builder, or, even want to buy an existing place you will find it here!” Perkins was not just being a good promoter. Wandering around the exhibits during set up one could see real estate booths, builders, and displays of kayaks, pontoon boats, backyard play equipment, furniture, and much more. In all there are more than one-hundred-twenty-five displays.
The displays are amazing to see whether you have a vacation home, are planning one or just dreaming but they are certainly not the only reason to go to this show. All weekend long the Cabin Life Stage will feature fun and entertaining demonstrations. The Wildlife Science Center of Forest Lake, Minnesota will have a special selection of raptors for all to see. But, this isn’t just a stroll by a booth and look event since the fabulous birds will also be featured in two special performances each day.
What says up north more than the haunting cry of a loon? However, pollution and other factors are combining to reduce the number of the beautiful creatures on our northern lakes each year. This trend doesn’t have to continue and the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute of Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin formed LoonWatch twelve years ago to protect the loon and its habitat as well as to educate the public about issue. LoonWatch will present “Up at the Lake with Loons” a special program to teach about the LoonWatch program and about the lovely creatures.
If you have been missing your summer cookouts, you will definitely want to check out the Cabin Time Grilling Zone where a unique outdoor kitchen will be set up and the chefs from Bluephies Restaurant will be grilling some favorite summertime recipes. You will have the chance to see free cooking demonstrations several times each day, have a tasty treat and get the recipe cards so you will be ready when summer finally does arrive.
