Once you’ve set your budget, picking a venue can be a challenge. There are a lots of local venues to be considered for your party. Some things to look for are venues that allow more time for your money and venues that include the most in their rental package. Try not to go for venues with exclusive catering unless you’ve checked out the caterer beforehand and know that they’re within your budget. Most of the best venues in our area are actually run by MetroParks. These venues are less expensive than others because they aren’t primarily party locations. They don’t need to overcharge you to stay in business.
For kids who are in to nature and parents that want to have a carefree party planning experience, this is the place to go. Located on the border of Snake Lake and the the 71-acre nature preserve that borders it, the nature center is an easy way to have everything taken care of for you. Costing from $150-$200 for up to 20 children, this venue is an inexpensive stress free way to throw a party. They also give party favors to all children over the age of 4. Tacoma Nature Center is also available for weddings and other events. Depending on how long you want your event to be, this venue can be a real steal. For business meetings, the rental price is $50 per hour during business hours and $100 per hour after business hours. When used for weddings, Tacoma Nature Center costs $100 per hour. The minimum number of rental hours ranges from 2 hours to 4 hours depending on the day of the week. With many extra features included in the rental and AV equipment available for an additional $25 charge, this scenic venue is one of Tacoma’s best party locations for nature lovers.
An alternative for those of you throwing parties that love animals rather than nature is the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Depending on your budget, the zoo can be a great place to hold an event. For those of you on an extremely tight budget that aren’t planning a children’s birthday party, I recommend not wasting your time looking at this venue. Their catering is a definite budget buster. The zoo is a deal when it comes to birthday parties though because you’re allowed to bring your own cake and drinks. It costs $250 for 15 people. With their party room right next to the carousel, all guests receive free carousel rides throughout the party.
The appeal of Fort Nisqually is that the people that go there get to almost step back in time. This is what your child thinks the world was like when you were their age. Fort Nisqually’s Great Hall falls into about the same price category as Tacoma Nature Center. Prices are exactly the same as Tacoma Nature Center for business meetings, weddings, and AV setup. Children’s birthdays cost $200 for 15 people and involve either a history lesson of some sort, tour of the complex, or a hands on activity. To rent the whole complex, it’s $250 per hour, which is not extremely budget friendly, but still a good price for the experience. There are very detailed instructions for renting Fort Nisqually and you are encouraged to rent in advance.
South Park Community Center is a host to many community activities and classes through out the year. The center also recently underwent a remodel. The venue can hold up to 325 sitting people. This venue probably isn’t what you’re looking for if you’re throwing a child’s birthday. With 4 options of what to rent, listing them here out of context would just make you dizzy. Prices vary from $50-$175 depending on all of the variables involved. With both indoor and outdoor options, this is a good venue for weddings, auctions, anniversaries and other similar events.
