A loss by Purdue and Wisconsin means the list of perfect teams was just cut in half. One is among college basketball royalty, the other a recent Big XII power that will probably make history when the AP rankings come out Monday. Here is my Top 25:
The Longhorns passed their toughest test of the season and reach #1 for the first time in school history.
A 17 point drumming of DePaul followed by another hard fought win against Marquette shows why ‘Nova is the Big East favorite.
Although no longer unbeaten the Boilermakers have wins over West Virginia and Tennessee. They have a chance to avenge a road loss against a good Wisconsin team later this season.
A Blue Devil team playing their third game in a week went to Atlanta and lost by only four points.
A close home win against Cornell followed by a loss to a Tennessee team that was missing four key players cost the Jayhawks a few spots in the rankings.
8. North Carolina
The Tar Heels let a loss to Charleston plague them in the first half against Virginia Tech.
9. Michigan State
A tough non-conference schedule prepared the Spartans for a loaded Big Ten Conference, and it showed with a road win against Wisconsin.
The Hoyas made up for a loss to Marquette by beating UConn at home.
11. Kansas State
How did the Wildcats lose to an unranked Miizzou team that shot 43 percent and turned the ball over 20 times? Kansas State matched the Tiger turnover for turnover and shot 42 percent, dropping their Big XII opener to an unranked team.
The Vols beat Kansas with three walk-ons playing a total of 45 minutes.
Played Michigan State tough in Lansing then knocked off a previously undefeated Purdue team.
14. West Virginia
15. New Mexico
16. Florida State
The Rebels can’t afford another bad loss to Mississippi State this year if they want to stay ranked.
The Huskies haven’t beaten a ranked team all year.
23. Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets still can’t win in Athens, but did down Duke.
Despite losing to Seton Hall, three wins over ranked opponents helped the Bearcats get back into the Top 25.
25. Texas A&M
The Aggies built an impressive resume with wins against Clemson and Minnesota. A&M can make some noise with road wins against Kansas State and Texas coming up.
