IHOP (The International House of Pancakes) has a cute slogan: Come hungry. Leave Happy.
If extremely full, bloated, and ashamed of caloric intake makes you happy, then by all means, IHOP truly delivers. According to the calendar, February 23rd is National Pancake Day. It might not be printed on your calendar directly, but it’s on IHOP’s calendar and plastered all over their website. To celebrate, right now, anyone can enter IHOP with eyes wider than a tall stack, and their stomach, and shell out $4.99 for All You Can Eat Pancakes. You can also stack this deal with a combination plate of eggs, breakfast meats, etc…
The pros of the IHOP pancake is the flavor. They are buttery and rich like a pancake should be. Accompanied with any of the IHOP signature syrups, and you are in for a real treat. However, if you order them, and compare the actual pictures on the menu to the real deal, you’ll note they aren’t fluffy, nor is a tall stack so tall. If you haven’t tried the boysenberry syrup, do it! It’s sweet but not overly sugary and overwhelming. It’s subtle berry flavor compliment the pancake and bring out an enhanced flavor unlike all the other syrups.
IHOP also offers more than just breakfast. They offer mostly anything from burgers to sandwiches to T-Bones, and everything in between. The question is… Should They?
The Chicken Fried Steak is nothing short of comfort food at it’s greatest! IHOP takes a pounded thin steak, batters it up, and deep fries it. They place a healthy dollop of sausage gravy on it, and serve it hot. If you have never tried it, what are you waiting for? This dish will warm your insides and take away any depressing thoughts you may have (until you investigate the nutrition details).
The fried shrimp basket is good. They are small shrimp and appear as though you get a good sized portion. A tad salty, but otherwise the breading and seasoning are good. Overall, fried shrimp from a breakfast food chain, is not what you’d expect. It serves the purpose and isn’t butchered to the point of inedible sludge. The shrimp taste fresh with no “fishy” overlay, and they come with a side of delicious, well-cooked and seasoned French fries.
To sum it up, IHOP doesn’t just do breakfast, and they do other foods well. They charge decent prices, give great portions, and make the experience definitely a bang for your buck. They can certainly satisfy your comfort food craving, and stand by the slogan of letting their customers leave happy.
Until next time… Enjoy your next forkful!
