We’ve known that “Pirates of The Caribbean 4” was headed in front of cameras sometime soon, but we didn’t know when and we didn’t know where. Now, thanks to the magic of the internet, our curiousity can be satiated. Read on for all the “Pirates 4” details you could ever want (until something more substantial about the flick comes along), my gentle Examiner readers…
Fans of the “Pirates of The Caribbean” films have been excited about the fourth film in the series since it was announced about a year ago. The subtitle on this one is “On Stranger Tides”, and– in case you’re wondering– yes, Johnny Depp is currently cashing a $4500 million paycheck to return as Jack Sparrow.
Just today, some news about the adventure/comedy popped up online, and here’s what we’ve learned:
The fourth installment of Disney’s popular “Pirates of The Caribbean” series will be filmed in Hawaii, according an announcement Monday by Gov. Linda Lingle. Johnny Depp will return to his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” which will begin shooting this summer on Oahu and Kauai and be released in 2011. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall.
That’s from an MSNBC.com article that uses the word “Ahoy” in the title. Bonus: they also use the word “Matey”. Apparently, Hawaii’s pretty excited to be getting the “Pirates” business that the production is set to bring to their beaches:
Lingle estimated the production will generate $85 million in spending in Hawaii, which is reeling from the steep drop-off in tourism stemming from the global economic crisis.
“Hawaii competes on a global basis for productions and to have Disney choose Hawaii over other states and countries is a huge win for us,” said Georja Skinner, which heads the state division that oversees the Hawaii Film Office.
Yawn. Whatever, we just wanna know two things: when does Keira Knightley show up in a bikini; and is the fourth one going to be better than the third one? Because, honestly, Disney– the third one sucked. Couldn’t even make sense of it. Here’s hoping that Rob Marshall (last seen not living up to the hype with the musical “Nine”) can take the reigns from Verbinski and deliver something that’s funny, smart, and worth a couple hours of our time.
