January 19th 2010 may go into the history books as the day that stopped Socialism in America.
Just a few days ago, it looked like Obama administration was on the verge of passing the Healthcare legislation that millions of Americans opposed. Americans were angry at the way President Obama bribed Senators like Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, to buy their votes for passing Healthcare legislation. Americans were angry at the way President Obama was cutting tons of backroom deals with Senators, insurance companies, and his voter base – the Unions, to muzzle the Healthcare legislation through the Senate. Americans were angry at the way Senators were asked to vote on bills running into thousands of pages, without ever reading them, within only a few hours of the bill being circulated. Americans were angry at the midnight rushed votes conducted on days like Christmas Eve, a tactic meant to avoid transparency.
The anger of the American people was visible on January 19th 2010, in the Liberal state of Massachusetts. The anger of American people got a Republican Senator elected from the deep blue state of Massachusetts, a state that has not elected a Republican Senator since they elected Edward William Brooke, III in 1966.
Scott Brown, a Republican is on the way to occupy the Senate seat that was occupied by the Liberal lion Ted Kennedy for decades.
Scott Brown has promised during the campaign days that he will act as the 41st vote that Republicans need to filibuster the Healthcare legislation, unless it is sent back to the drawing boards.
This almost certainly means that the current Obama Healthcare legislation will not make it into law, unless Obama and Democrats double down on the backroom deals, bribery, and shady tactics.
Meanwhile, unemployment has been on the rise every month, all across America. President Obama had promised back in Feb 2009 that if his 787 billion stimulus bill were to be passed, unemployment will not go above 8%. That Stimulus bill did nothing to help the economy. Unemployment went above 10%, and is still rising. New jobless claims released as of this morning rose for third straight week, against all expectations. The real unemployment rate, if people who have quit looking for work are included, is above a sky high 17%.
If President Obama is a pragmatist like Bill Clinton, he would stop focusing on healthcare at this point, and start focusing on Jobs. It is the jobs that are the need of the hour for the American people.
President Obama, it is time to take a leaflet out of Bill Clinton’s playbook, one in which he showed the world how to pragmatically move to the Middle, after starting off far Left, and win a second term after being driven to a huge defeat by healthcare bill in early1990’s.
President Obama, it is time to shut off far Left people in your party like Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and move to the middle, before it is too late.
President Obama, It’s time to tear down that healthcare bill – a bill that has put a Republican Senator on the same seat occupied by the Liberal Lion Ted Kenney for decades, a bill that Americans hate. President Obama, it’s time to focus on jobs.
