Twilight’s Peter Facinelli said, “It’s the closest thing I could think of to see Elvis perform live.”
Viva ELVIS is a harmonious fusion of dance, acrobatics and live music which features 30 of Elvis’ songs. Elvis’ voice is the only male singing voice in the show joined occasionally by live female singers and an energetic live band.
Ryan Seacrest commented, “There is a brilliant brand in Cirque du Soliel, so that set to the brilliant music and pop culture impact that Elvis has had is an incredible combination.”
Guy Laliberte, founder of Cirque du Soleil, explained that after the success of The Beatles LOVE show, “the people who own the right of Elvis came and knocked at our door and said ‘Would you like to work with Elvis?’… For us, as creative people, it was a yes, right away.”
While The Beatles’ LOVE show is more of an abstract interpretation of various Beatles songs, Viva ELVIS is more of a chronological journey through Elvis Presley’s life. Important personal moments in Elvis’ life are highlighted in the show including his induction into the army and his marriage to Priscilla, while career highlights are emphasized such as the dance sequence in “Jailhouse Rock” and his famous film “Viva Las Vegas.” Footage from Elvis’ films as well as home movies with Priscilla are shown onstage throughout the show.
Priscilla Presley, who had input on the show, declared: “[The show] honors his legacy in every way.”
The show opens to the public on February 21st.
