Sophistication is the most delectable flavor in Reese Wanzer’s bag of treats. Having had the opportunity to travel across the European Nation with this belle, I was one of the lucky few to have seen the many sides of Miss Reese. More than just an avid shopper and social butterfly, she is a traveler at most. Beautifully cultured, her intelligence is tantalizing and none the less addictive.
A Miami International University of Art & Design Alumni, Reese has creativity bursting through every inch of her work. Having designed, modeled, merchandised and styled, her ferocious approach to the art of fashion cultivates admirers, setting her apart from the rest of Miami’s “finest”. Even visiting celebrities, like Jessica Alba, Cash Warren, and Benji Madden, have been styled the Wanzer way, and loved every minute of it.
If your lucky to be introduced to Miss. Reese, your fist impression is that you most likely are about to fall in love with this fiery vixen. She treats everyone the same, an acquaintance becomes an old friend as soon as you click, and without hesitation she exposes her every perspective on music, life, culture, and above all fashion. Forget the fact that she’s always dressed to the “T”, when it comes to style Reese knows how to express herself best through the clothes that she wears. Confidence is what you read off her labels.
Now that I know Reese has a soft spot for raspberry tarts, vintage keys, and riding her bicycle around downtown, I wanted to peel back a few of her layers so that you can get a taste of Wanzer’s beautiful persona.
EXAMINER: Who are you in fashion? What do you do and how do you do it?
REESE WANZER: Me? I peg myself as a living model. Not the kind you see on a catwalk or in a photograph by Helmut Newton, but the kind that floats through life displaying this seasons latest fashions as they should be worn. In a way this also makes me a bit of a stylist, but that can be argued. I style myself for myself. I LOVE fashion, I live and I breathe it.
E: Fashion being an art, what do you get from it and notice the most?
RW:Fashion is the most common form of art you’re going to see everyday besides architecture, which fashion itself even embraces. I love that fashion, much like art, mimics the era it is being designed in. If there is a recession, we see grunge trends and cheaper materials moving to the forefront of style, whereas if we’re in good times fashion is much more frivolous and gilded. I notice the groundbreakers who fight the trends and eras and just thrive off of inspiration such as your Alexander McQueen’s’, Vivienne Westwood’s’, Christian Lacroix’s, etc.
E: What does your style say to people?
RW:My style says simply, “I am what I am, and I’m not what I’m not.” I am not a trend whore, I embrace the trends that both appeal to me and flow harmoniously with my body and style. I take pride in my very individual and androgynous look. Playing the chameleon in the fashion game is always fun.
E: What item/line/trend gets your heart pumping?
RW: Anything that I have never seen before. More likely the uglier items that others are afraid they can’t pull off. My favorite right now are sky high platform shoes, I own at least 5 or 6 pairs including flannel grey Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Too pumps. Alexander McQueens’ armadillo and dragon-looking shoes are my must-have accessories of my dreams! They’re so haute and ridiculous that I just die when I see them, I MUST have them!
E: Career wise, you’re itching to:
RW:be a live in house muse for a fashion designer.
E: What do you have trouble shopping for and what’s your strategy for handling it?
RW: I never have any trouble shopping for clothes, the best part about “chameleonizing” your closet really. I believe any fashion problem can be solved via shopping around or e-bay.
E: Favorite style icon:
RW: Victoria Beckham
E: What about Miami gets you going?
RW: I love the laid back atmosphere, beautiful people, and all of the perks of living in a big city. No matter what day of the week it is, there’s always something to do and hot people to do it with….take that how you want it.
E: Favorite Miami trend?
RW: Long live the bandage dress.
E: Least favorite thing to see around town?
RW: Walking clones. People with no individual style, the same fringe boot wearing, hobo bag toting, aviator sporting, fur vest rocking, tousled haired, Rachel Zoe look-a-like contestants.
E: Favorite Miami magazine:
RW: Hmmmmm. I have to have one? Haute Living.
E: Undiscovered city treasure:
RW: Sobe Thrifty or The Fly Boutique for amazing designer pieces and finds
E: Secret pleasure:
RW: Coldstone Creamery and cupcakes from Whole Foods
E: Trendy place to
eat: La Folie French creperie on Espanola Way.
Shop: French Connection or Anthropologie.
Hang: the new promenade on Lincoln road or Lincoln road in general
E: Why do you do it?
RW: Because fashion has been my faithful lover for longer than any man has been. I LOVE you fashion, please call me tomorrow.
