Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 is a great new program from Serif. I was lucky enough to have an exclusive first look at the program for this review. It is a product that is simple to use but has many advanced features found in other graphic design packages.
For beginners DSA2 has a lot to offer without being overwhelming. You can use pre-made pages included with the program and just drop your photos in, or you can drag-and-drop backgrounds and embellishments to create your own pages. The menus make it easy to add effects to your photos or text with one click.
If you are an advanced user DSA2 has the graphic editing tools you need for a great price. It includes a wide array of photo filters, masks, and blend modes so you can create the perfect page.
The new advanced photo editing tools let you adjust any aspect of photos you can think of. There are artistic effects like pencil sketches, black and white or sepia, HSL adjustment, Gaussian blur, depth of field, curves and many others. The wonderful thing is all of these filters can be applied to your entire photo or a specific spot with a selective mask. You can remove any filter previously applied or make adjustments to its values after application. It also has a split screen option so you can see the before and after of your photo.
Other new features in this version are stencils and the color palette designer. Stencils are a fun addition that let you paint outlines onto your page with any brush. You can easily make your own stencils from any graphic or text. Just drag-and-drop into the stencil menu. The palette designer is a great feature if you are designing your own kits or can’t decide what colors to use on a page. You use the dropper to select any color from your layout and palette designer gives you a wide range of matching colors in different schemes (Triadic, Complementary, Analogous) that you can add to your palette
I love DSA2 because you can customize nearly everything, make your own elements or brushes, and they have great customer support too. Their online community DaisyTrail.com is a great place to learn. You can find tutorials, get answers from Serif staff to questions about the program (very promptly too!), download free kits, and participate in challenges. They also have a free version of Digital Scrapbook Artist available for download. It‘s free and anyone can join, so if you are curious about Digital Scrapbook Artist; Daisy Trail is a good place to check it out.
