National Condom Week must be on the editorial calendar of every media outlet in the country this year, which makes for some fun post-Valentine’s Day reading:
Size Matters: Reuters (and every other media outlet) is reporting on new research by Dr. Richard Crosby of the University of Kentucky and Dr. Bill Yarber of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction indicating that Poor fit may explain why men refuse condoms, and suggesting (surprise!) that many men are unwilling to purchase appropriately-sized condoms labeled “small” or “medium.”
Safe Sex Superheroes to the Rescue: Captain Condom and other Safe Games 2010 volunteers are distributing 250,000 free condoms in Vancouver’s Olympic Village this week, in case any of the athletes (or fans) feel like celebrating.
How I Love Thee: Sex educator Dr. Logan Levkoff has an “Ode to Condoms” at Huffington Post
Get Some: The New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced the finalists in its NYC Condom redesign competition, which include both top hat and manhole references sure to cause a stir if selected as winners.
Museum Curators Love Wearing Gloves: The New York Museum of Sex has a new exhibition this month called “Rubbers: The Life, History & Struggle of the Condom”
Don’t you miss college? The organizers of Sex Week at Yale have made their full 52-page 2010 SWAY Magazine available online for free.
Love the Glove: Sex educator and Scarleteen.com founder Heather Corinna offers 10 Reasons to Use Condoms You Might Not Have Heard Yet
Wrap With Care… Save the Polar Bear: The Center for Biological Diversity suceeded in drawing mounds of media attention to the impact of human overpopulation last week after distributing 100,000 of its Endangered Species Condoms.
Proper Attire Required for Entry: Planned Parenthood, under fire this week (as always) from religious right groups, released a limited edition Proper Attire condom with packaging designed by Opening Ceremony. Proceeds from the sale of Proper Attire condoms will benefit Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
