FLORENCE, Oregon — There’s nobody crying the recession blues at the Purple Pelican Antique Mall along Highway 101 in Florence. In fact, Mike and Stella Ault have recently expanded their mall to include a wide range of both vintage and modern furniture.
The Ault’s believe this addition to their mall with more furniture offerings would expand their customer base.
“We’ve always believed that if you have quality merchandise and fair pricing that customers will continue to shop even during a recession,” said Mike Ault. “We are also fortunate to have some great consigners who offer some very popular items for sale here at the Purple Pelican Antique Mall.
The new furniture section of this popular coastal mall has also been a huge success. Currently, the Ault’s are offering sales opportunities to anybody with quality furniture they wish to sell on consignment. The new venue is located right next door to the malls’ main entrance.
“Whenever I visit Florence – per the 90 minute drive to the coast along Highway 126 from Eugene – I check out the Purple Pelican because it’s sort of the center of the town’s antique district,” said George Teter of Eugene.
Teter also noted that the Purple Pelican always “has new and really cool items for sale.”
The Ault’s, which have owned this Florence based antique business since 2000, want to sell various types and styles of furniture in the adjacent former video shop that is now connected to their main mail. “It made sense to expand our mall consignments with a larger selection of furniture that locals can consign and sell with us,” said Mike Ault.
At the same time, Stella Ault points out the need for more options when it comes to furniture sales. “We don’t just sell antiques at the Purple Pelican. We also want the public to know that we also sell other useful items for the home such as quality furniture. This expansion of our mall to include various types of furniture is fulfilling a real need in our community and this region.”
Moreover, she said that “during these difficult economic times this news of an expanded Purple Pelican Antique Mall for furniture may help those who are on fixed budgets and who either need to purchase or sell furniture.”
The debut of this expanded furniture department at the Purple Pelican Antique Mall also means that those in the community with furniture to sell have a place to showcase it. For example, the Ault’s have set-up an easy five-step process for would be sellers so the process is easy as possible.
“We evaluate what someone wants to sell by simply talking to them, viewing photos of what they want to sell and then making arrangements for the items to be picked up,” Mike Ault said.
In general, the Ault’s have shifted to the idea of expanding our furniture offerings “because the potential for good sales are there. We are looking for furniture in good to mint condition from smoke free homes,” he added.
There are numerous reasons for consigning furniture at the Purple Pelican Antique Mall, to include:
? Qualified buyers have constant access to view and purchase items without the disruptions of selling furniture out of one’s home.
? The Ault’s pride themselves as professionals and are well-known in Florence, Oregon and throughout the U.S. as a quality antiquing destination.
? The Ault’s also maintain quality customer relations with such things as a “wish list” that keeps them in touch with the items that certain customers are seeking. Often, such items as furniture, will sell on the very first day it’s displayed because the Ault’s make it their business to stay in touch with select buyers.
? The Ault’s also offer friendly and easy pick-up service if needed, and guarantee payment when the furniture is sold.
In addition, Mike Ault has a unique “price reduction schedule” that goes a long way in making sure furniture consignment move and sell effectively. “Our consigners are always kept in the loop when and if we think a discount price is in order.
The Ault’s believe that each and every furniture consignment could generate a maximum return to customers who sell their items at the Purple Pelican Antique Mall. “Even with this recession, we’re seeing customers who want quality merchandise. If the quality and condition is there, than we fully expect our consigners to do well,” Mike Ault said.
