Karen Rivers reminds parents to take “joy in raising children” by addressing the “inner work of a parent.” Offering courses in the Waldorf-style of integrating singing, lecture, and discussion, Karen engages parents in deep reflection of their important work, while providing tools for nurturing and understanding children.
Long-time Waldorf educator and director of community festivals, the North Bay Community finds a sage supporter in Karen Rivers. Editor of “Waldorf Education: A Family Guide” , Facilitator of the Sophia Foundation’s Grail and Rosamira Circles , and Wisdom University Teacher, Karen invites parents to cultivate inner awareness and participate in their children’s lives and community activities with consciousness. She encourages parents to balance the needs of their family and the inner calling to serve the greater community. She offers a range of opportunities to engage parents and families in ritualistic, rhythmic and creative activities. Karen holds seasonal festivals, as well as a choral group, study groups, and workshops open to all, at the Petaluma “barn”, a place where community can gather through the generosity of Fort Schlesinger.
Local Santa Rosa mother, Kosima Grundy, joined Karen Rivers for her annual Christmas Eve celebration. Grundy and family found the “barn” to be a pastoral retreat on a nature reserve. Rivers wove music, candlelight and story into a spiritual ritual, helping to tie families to the deeper meaning of the holidays.
