Taylor Swift is now officially the top-selling digital artist in music history, with over 24.3 million digital tracks sold to date. This major feat was announced by Neilsen/SoundScan (the folks that keep track of such things), according to sales figures released yesterday. In addition, her “Fearless” album was 2009’s top-seller, with sales last year in excess of 3.2 million copies…”Fearless” was also the top-selling album of 2008 and Swift is the youngest solo artist ever to top one, let alone, two year-end sales charts. Susan Boyle was breathing down Taylor’s back, as Susan broke records left and right for her debut album with “I Dreamed a Dream.” It looked like she may just swoop into the top position, out-selling Swift with only six weeks in stores. However, a slow down in post Christmas sales left the title in Taylor Swift’s hands by only 113,000 copies. Below, please find a list of the Top 10 selling albums of 2009.

For young Taylor, 2009 WAS her year. Not only is she “Queen of the Downloads,” along with holding the best-selling album of the year, she was also named Billboard’s “Artist of the Year,” as well as “Entertainer of the Year” by The Associated Press. She also made People Magazine’s “Most Intriguing People of 2009” list, while she was also named a “Person Who Mattered” by Time Magazine, a “Person of the Year” by NBC, and was featured as one of Rolling Stone’s “100 People Changing America.” And if that wasn’t enough, People Magazine named her one of 2009’s “10 Best Dressed Celebrities,” along with one of the year’s “Most Beautiful People.”…I wonder if Kanye made that same list?
Taylor has started off the new year with a big win at last night’s People’s Choice Awards in LA, by winning the “Favorite Female Artist” award. Earlier in the day she made a surprise appearance at the CES show in Las Vegas, where Sony Chairman & CEO Sir Howard Stringer introduced her as the newest “Brand Ambassador for Sony Electronics.” Perhaps there was an open spot since Tiger Woods hasn’t been around lately. There is no question that Taylor Swift’s career is firing on all cylinders at this time. Let’s just hope that she has a group of good people surrounding her that can keep her moving in the right direction.
