If you’re a seasoned portrait photographer or just an enthusiast with a passion for photography, you should really consider attending this workshop. It is Sacramento’s first praiseworthy photography workshop of the year, and it is being held in Woodland on February 20th. The theme? Pin-up photography!
For those of you who may not be familiar with today’s Pin-up photography, it can easily be described as photographs of women who are glamour or fashion models with retro-style overtones. While pin-up images of yesteryear had somewhat of a negative stigma attached to them, today they are embraced by many people as an art-form that is now more acceptable in the public eye without too much apprehension from those who are overly-judgmental.
The origins of pin-up go back as far as the late 19th century, but the term Pin-up cemented itself in pop-culture back in the early 1940s. Simply defined as a photograph “pinned” to the wall intended for informal display. To learn a little more about the genre, read a recent interview with a pinup model here (she actually attended last years event).
The 2nd annual event is being organized by photographer, Mark Behrens. Mark holds many different photography workshops throughout the year. His workshops are geared to accommodate beginners to professionals. You can learn more about his workshops by visiting his photography workshop website Lookpw.com.
The Pin-up workshop attracts photographers and models from all over Northern California. It is a great opportunity for photographers to add a little diversity to their portfolio or print collection, and it is also an ideal setting for Pin-up models to gain experience in front of the camera as well as acquire images from multiple photographers for their own portfolios.
The Location: The Heidrick Agriculture History Center in Woodland California is a 130,000 square foot facility loaded with all kinds of exhibits including agricultural equipment, historic vehicles, and environment settings. There is more than enough room and attractions for even the largest of workshops, so you won’t have to worry about it being too crowded to get great shots. It is an optimal location for retro-style photography.
If you have ever had any interest in the Pin-up genre, this is definitely worth the price of admission. There will be plenty of opportunities for indoor and outdoor shooting, and plenty of instruction for those still learning the basics of photography. Make sure your batteries are charged, and be ready to put a callus on your index finger.
