While many TEA Party followers agree with the principles behind the Libertarian party it has been in existence since 1971. That’s three decades to organize, promote and elect candidates, so far it has not been overly successful. We all know the status of the Democrats, having been moved to such a ‘Big Tent’ over the last few decades, they have lost the moderate or conservative values and been overrun with the likes of liberals, progressives and socialists. The GOP up until recently had also followed the Democrats down the yellow brick-fork in the road, to the left. Finally, a true grass roots movement The TEA Party completely formed by the people emurged fed up with all of them and ready to break free from all of the above.
The two party system is flawed, but there is a certainty that an elected position at the federal level such as in either House or the Oval Office, is almost always won by one of the two major political bases, GOP or Democrats. While the TEA Party has now been duly noted as the biggest party supported by Americans today there is absolutely no way that they can create the needed change in Washington if the TEA Party followers attempt to ignore the candidates from the GOP or the Democratic Party. Instead the TEA Party needs to support the conservative candidates based on record, from all parties.
The Democrats, the main party of progressives are using this simple fact to attempt to divide and conquer the TEA Party supporters. Since Sarah Palin spoke as keynote speaker in a nationwide conference that captured the TEA Party name there seems to be a great deal of in-fighting at a level unprecedented with the TEA Party groups. Quite frankly, the TEA Party had the progressives from both major parties by the tail, running scared and getting desperate.
The TEA Party has the GOP towing the line of conservatism and turning it’s base around to listen to the people for the first time in as many years as the Libertarians have been around. The GOP tasted the bitter revolt in NY23 and now recognize their leftward direction was as big a mistake as electing left leaning Obama as President as demonstrated by latest polling and the marked dissatisfaction among Americans nationwide.
If they allow the TEA Party to become divided over the actions of Sarah Palin, rather than use the momentum she brings to change the paradigm and make the pendulum swing right, they will be conquered. While the TEA Party followers don’t support any of the RINOs or so called Progressive GOP candidates that Palin has campaigned for, it is still up to the voters to make the final call at the ballot; walking away from Palin simply because she chooses to support candidates who brought her to into the main stream political arena, is simply stated as ‘biting off your nose to spite your face.’
Every U.S. Congressman and one third of the Senate is up for re-electon this November and while the members of the TEA Party would love to send every liberal, progressive, socialist, RINO and even moderate packing; they must accept that the U.S. did not get here overnight and that will be setting the TEA Party up for certain failure. No, they need to enact change by electing the majority of our legislators as fiscal conservatives and small limited government advocates as the first step in many steps toward the recovery of The United States of America.
TEA Party Patriots must accept that they will never collectively never agree 100% on certain candidates, but if they divide the movement over one person they will be the same as the Democrats.
As Will Rogers said, ‘I’m not a member of any organized political party, I am a Democrat.’ The TEA Party followers should be saying, ‘I will use any public figure to create support of a majority of Fiscal Conservatives in our government, anything less and we will all have lost.’
