Three little words can change the course of your life in an instant. You’ve heard these three words, probably more times than you realize. Perhaps your first boyfriend pressured you into doing something you weren’t ready for by using these three words. Or maybe your friends wanted you join them into doing something that you were opposed to and they uttered these three words to bend your will. You could quite possibly tell your partner or your children, maybe even your siblings these three little bitty words when you are frustrated with hearing them whine and complain. Just do it.
Yup, the Nike slogan that has been around for a couple of decades speaks volumes. In three little words, it tells you to get over yourself, your excuses, your issues, and just jump in. If you want a great life, this is all you have to do: Just do it.
It can be anything from doing the laundry to scheduling a manicure or pedicure. It could be baking a cake with your kids or spending quality time with your partner. Rather than beat yourself up mentally for all the things you haven’t done yet, it’s easier (and quicker) to just simply do it. Make time for it, not excuses as to why it can’t get done. You see, when you sit around and ponder over and over about how things should pan out, you’re wasting valuable time living. Who has time to sit around all day and think about what they wish they had time to do? Certainly not me.
The cure for moving forward in your life and creating the life you want, is to simply take steps that will lead you on that path. Don’t overthink what step should be taken next, just take one step. For example, for years I have been seeing the advertisements for Team in Training program. It’s a program that helps teams of people train for a marathon, half marathon, bike-athon, triathlon, or a walking race. All the proceeds raised by each team go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It’s a pretty great cause and I believed I would thoroughly enjoy participating, but I never put forth any effort to see what it was all about. So there I was, just sitting around thinking “hmm..I would like to join one of those teams.” Rather than sign up, I went on about my business of eating unhealthily, working out inconsistently, and complaining that I will never be able to run a half marathon.
Until the day I realized that if I don’t work towards my dreams now (at the very least just try), no one else is going to do it for me. So I stopped my whining and just went for it. I signed up for an information session in a nearby city so that I could get all of my questions answered as well as see if I could join a team. Because I didn’t think about it, it was easier to go through this whole process.
My point is fairly simple and at first glance can seem a bit difficult to actually do. But, that’s only your mind making you think it’s hard. Just take a step towards something that you’ve been wanting to do for a long time and have successfully talked yourself out of it. Don’t think about it anymore. Don’t try to list the pros and cons. Don’t ask your friends what you should do. Just do it!
