The people of Vancouver are awakening to a new revolution – a raw food revolution.
Raw food is essentially real food – nutritious living foods without contaminants, chemicals, and growth products unaltered by laboratory interventions, heat and processing.
Foodies are going back to their roots and changing their diet in an obvious yet dramatic way. The New Year 2010 has brought more focus on wellness, prevention and awareness of what happens to and through the body. The revolution in raw food eating can be observed in all hubs in the city of Vancouver.
Websites, chat rooms, social media sites and book clubs are sprouting with members demanding for easily prepared, organic and non-gmo foods and recipes. Local community garden groups and slow food groups are helping one another to empower and educate the masses on healthful living and eating. Farmers markets, cafés, organic home delivery companies, grocery stores, restaurants have seen a significant rise in customers demanding fair trade and nutritious food during the past ten years. The North American processed food industry has had to fight back for losing its customers by offering products that are organic and wholesome.
The body is known to be self-healing and will remain healthy if it’s fed correctly. Raw foods already have the enzymes, vitamins, and minerals in place to nourish the body the way nature intended.
People have been schooled to think that cooked foods are normal and should replace other methods, such as eating raw. Illnesses and diseases rampant in the 21st-century are in part due to the resulting malnutrition brought on by cooked foods.
Mother nature’s variety of colorful rainbow of foods is the most encouraging step toward the right direction. Fruits and vegetables are bountiful in their innate rich colors, textures, smells, and tastes. These can appeal to the most challenging of palates, unless they have been used to vast amounts of chemically processed foods since birth.
Thankfully, the palate can adjust accordingly if given time and choices. For some it may be the habit of adding salt and sugar to the raw food to make it “taste better.” However, for others it is the time constraints and ease of having dinner on the table in 10 minutes – better known as microwaveable foods.
The facts remain that raw foods have their own natural salts and sugars, which are adequately flavorful and nutritionally superior. Convenience in reality means to wash and prepare a salad, which takes less time than popping prepared foods high in salt and fat into a microwave. In actuality, once a microwave is used in any fashion, the nutrients are mostly removed, and cell structures are mutated.
Healthful living and eating styles are addictive, and once you’ve see another person’s rosy cheeks, vitality, mobility and lack of doctor and pharmacy visits – there should be no reason not to try raw food. Allergies, PMS, obesity, menopause, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease are just some of the diseases that will be diseases of the past. The raw food revolution is here to stay, at least in the city of Vancouver!
