Record snow fall totals have hit the east coast over the past week. Philadelphia has seen 15-25” of snow, NYC 10-15”, Washington DC 10-15”, and Baltimore 19-25” and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. 17 states were affected by this last snow storm.
Many cities are digging their way out while they get a short break from snow fall totals. And finding places to put that snow has been difficult and many cities are trucking snow to baseball fields that may take many months to melt.
Three major cities have already reached an all time snow fall total records. Baltimore has already reach 79.9” for the 2009-2010 snow season, breaking the previous record of 62.5” during the 1995-1996 snow season. Philadelphia has already reached 71.6” is the current record for this season and the last record was in 1995-1996 when they had 65.5 inches of snow. And Washington DC 55.9” is the total for this snow season and the previous record was from 1998-1999 when the record was 54.4”.
Tens of thousands of people are still without power. The capital is closed for the fourth straight day, and there is talk that it may remain closed until after the President’s Day holiday. Over 5,700 flights around the country have been cancelled. See the ABC News video below for the whole story.
In Salt Lake City, snow started overnight and is expected to continue for the next three days. Weather forecast predicted one inch over night, but four to five inches have already fallen in some areas of Salt Lake City. The high temperature is around 40 degrees for the next three days.
