Now don’t you feel foolish? Do all of you who voted for Obama feel like you’ve been had? You have, you know. The “hope” has long since faded and the “change”….well; not so much.
The latest campaign promise broken by Barack Obama is the one where he promised, on several occasions during the campaign, that there would be transparency regarding the health care negotiations in congress.
One August 21, 2008, for example; Obama said that there would be transparency and that the negotiations would be on C-SPAN for the whole country to see. You can Google it; he repeated the promise on several more occasions. Yeah, this was going to be the most transparent administration in the history of the United States.
Now, it seems, that promise by then Candidate Obama has been forgotten. The Democrat controlled congress is likely going to bypass the usual reconciliation process to work out the differences between the Senate and House bills in favor of back room dealings and guess what; we’re not invited. No C-SPAN, no Fox News, heck not even the NY Times.
Yes folks, Obama cannot risk being up front and in the open with this monstrosity of a bill. He cannot risk having we, in his mind; the ignorant masses know what’s going down. He knows what’s best for us. He knows better than we do and he doesn’t care what we want. He has to make sure something gets rammed down our throats in order to save his presidency.
That’s all he really cares about my friends. He doesn’t care about insuring all because this bill won’t. He doesn’t care about lowering rates because this bill won’t. He doesn’t care about lowering the deficit because this bill won’t. This bill won’t do any of the things that Obama claimed he wanted to do. The only thing it will do is give more control over us, our lives and our freedoms to Obama and the federal government.
This much is really clear however; regardless of the motive or the outcome, the public has the right to know what kind of negotiations go on behind those closed doors. We should be able to see what kinds of deals are made in order to buy votes. We should expect Obama to live up to his promises. That’s not too much to ask. This is after all, at least for now, still a republic and not a socialist state.
We cannot sit back and “hope” that Obama will “change” his mind and keep his promise of transparency. I urge you to put pressure on your elected representatives in both the Senate and the House. Hold their feet to the fire and make them bring things into the open. And if they refuse, vote them out then next time they are up for re-election.
