Zola’s restaurant on West End closed its doors Saturday night (January 16, 2010).
Last week we contacted Debra Paquette (owner and chef) about submitting a restaurant recipe for aerochug.com’s Winter Cookbook–her response was unexpected…“Our last day of Zola is Saturday. After 13 years we have decided to make some life changes.”
While we are happy to report that the reason cited for closing was of a personal nature (rather than economical, for a change), I am personally saddened to see it go.
Paquette’s innovative culinary offerings never disappointed and always exceeded my expectations.
Debra and Ernie Paquette posted the following on Zola’s website:
“Words cannot begin to explain the humbling effect, at the outpouring of support and emotion that Deb and I have received …”
Unfortunately, we are completely booked for our last week
ZOLA’s Final Night; January 16th, 2010
Words cannot begin to explain the humbling effect, at the outpouring of support and emotion that Deb and I have received since the announcement that ZOLA’s last night of business will be on Saturday, January 16th. We have heard so many stories of first dates, marriage proposals, birthdays, anniversaries and many other celebrations of life, that you have shared with us over the last thirteen years.
For those of you who didn’t catch it in the newspapers or on the news, Deb and I have made a “quality of life” decision and are moving on to a future in fishing lodge management. We have a couple of job offers right now, but we are going to be patient and deliberate about this next step in our lives. We have been preparing for this move for over twenty years. I take my 100 Ton Captain’s license test in March and we will be ready for assignment after April 1, 2010. Deb will be available for private catering this Spring.
Both of us were born on the ocean and after twenty-eight years of landlocked life, the tides are pulling us back. We love Nashville and will be regular visitors, to see our sons who live here and the amazing number of great friends that we are so lucky and proud to have here in Music City. Once we get settled, we will send out an email blast to let all of you know where we have landed.

A moment of silence…
