Summer camp is always a great choice for continued education and fun for the children. The Oregon Zoo located in Portland Oregon has summer camp for kids every summer.
This year Oregon Zoo presents ZooVenture Day Camp in the spring. Filled with fun and great things to do for every child. Such as animal visits, Zoo tours, games, crafts, stories and songs. Every day is an adventure. Children have the choice of attending the entire week or just for a day which ever is best for the family. Each day of camp is a different adventure – choose one or choose them all.
Ages four through the fourth grade from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Cost – Zoo Members $33.00 per child –Non-members $38.00 per child for the entire week.
Trek Across Asia – Monday, March 22
Elephants, tigers and orangutans – a wild trek for any visitor and children will love seeing the animals of Asia. The children will love the lorikeets and island pigs and be able to walk across a huge map of Asia (30 feet by 40 feet) that was made by National Geographic. Visiting each of the countries and biomes of Earths largest continent.
At Home with the Animals – Tuesday, March 23
Lodges, nests, burrows and dens are home to all the Worlds animals. Visit and get the inside scope on some of our animal architects and their homes. Visit the Meerkats, and Weaverbirds and see the complex tunnel of the Naked Mole Rates.
Feeding Frenzy – Wednesday, March 24
Children of the city do not usually visit hunters in the wild but on this day your child will learn much about the feeding of the wild. While enjoying this day at the Oregon Zoo children will enjoy meeting and learning about the role of the predator. Learning how many of our worlds animals use clever ways to catch and also the clever ways that prey learn to avoid or escape from the predator.
Movers & Shakers – Thursday, March 25
Your child will discover how animals fly, glide, dive, climb, and move to survive I the wild. Tamarins and lemurs are agile tree dwellers and your children will meet them all. Your child will be able to compare their climbing skills with those of the Great Mountain Goat.
Animal Families – Friday, March 26
In this final day of camp your children will be taught and shown by Oregon Zoo staff how many of the animals in the wild bring up their young and in the Zoo itself. The Oregon Zoo has the largest elephant breeding program and more baby elephants born in a Zoo than anywhere in the world. Your child will get a first hand look at these amazing creatures that share our world.
